Do Californians feel cheated by the electoral process?

Looking at the Presidential Election from across the Pond, it seems to me that it is far from democratic. In particular, the role played by Californians seems to be minimal, given that it is a massive state with a huge population. Not only does California vote late in the primaries process, by which time the issue is all but decided and many of the initial candidates have long since abandoned the fight, but on the main election night in November many Californians only get to vote long after results have been declared in Eastern states, and sometimes the new President had been decided. Would it not be a better system if no votes were counted until all the ballots had been cast, and no exit polling was allowed? That way, Californians and other West Coasters might feel that their votes have value when it comes to deciding who their next President will be.
