misery breeds company

There is a woman who gets on my bus most mornings. Well, there are quite a few women, but this one in particular tends to both intrigue me and get on my nerves, in equal measures. This woman gets on the bus at the stop after mine. She never smiles at the driver, nor does she offer a cheery, Hello! in an effort to brighten the driver's day. There is usually a grudgingly given Thank you, but it isn't accompanied by anything else. Once she's sat down and made herself comfortable she retrieves her mobile phone from her pocket and spends the next hour {till I get off the bus} talking to someone {always the same person, I think}. This is fine. I'm not judging her excessive use of her mobile. She pays for it, after all. No, it's the constant monotony. The lack of laughter and giggles. The negativity that spews forth from her lips. I'm still not judging her, of course. She can't help having a monotonous tone. But how can you talk to someone, day in and day out, and not have a little bit of a giggle. It leads me to assume that life in her house must be astoundingly miserable. The whole family probably sit around grumbling about how he said that and she did this whilst eating a dinner they're not enjoying and watching a tellybox programme they hate. I'm still not judging her, Ms Misery Guts.

That's true. I hadn't looked at it that way. She's quite a scary and domineering looking woman. Not that that means anything, but she looks like the sort who wouldn't take crap from anyone. Still, never judge a book by its cover, eh?!

I can figure this flat woman talking like a robot without a sign of emotion in her voice. How sad her life should be.

she collects everything she can so she can spill them to the same person at the same time and place every day. not sure if it's a great way to start your day.

Maybe as soon as the call finishes and she steps off the bus she's a genuinely happy person; all her troubles are now making the other person miserable!

Yes it's a big problem. There's fear attached and bad life experiences it sounds.

Could be. Or some people are just born with the predisposition to be misery guts.

It's true that some people don't know how to get the best out of life. They bring others down with their negative attitude, and are best avoided if possible.

I can only assume that whoever she talks to each morning is completely the same. So glad I don't share any office space with them!

Until I started noticing her on the bus I was quite sure that I was the most miserable person I know. It's quite nice knowing there are more miserable folk in the world!

Ofcourse you are not judgemental - that is clear in your post. Having said that I know exactly why you think that way though, as there are scores who live in this world without showing their feelings and that does not mean they have no feelings

Doesn't she just?! I may have her all wrong. Maybe she's just an absolute grump in the mornings and the life and soul of the party at nighttime!

I would wonder why she doesn't look for something to enjoy if I were listening to her.
