Tornados are coming today.

I'll just say it: I'm scared. Oklahoma is supposed to have tornados today. By the way, autocorrect says tornados AND tornadoes. So I'm iffy on which spelling to use. Anyway, we were told this weekend it would happen today. The thing is, during tornado season we ALWAYS have tornados hit where I live. The night of my mom's funeral a tornado hit my parents house. My dad was fine, but I had to pick him up so he could stay with me. I couldn't go to his house because the power lines trapped everyone in the neighborhood. They had to jump their backyard fences, and walk up a hill, past the yards of the houses that are behind them. But the real fear came when my friend was in an F5 tornado (biggest possible). It took her entire neighborhood out (tornado at my dad's was F2). I called shelters for two days looking for her. Unless you have a specially made safe room, or an underground shelter, there is reason to be afraid. But I'm praying, and I'm starting to get peace. @GardenGerty , Kansas has had storms today, right? It looked like Kansas was currently getting the bad weather. The tornado weather hits here from 4pm to 8pm. Please keep us in your prayers. I live on the top floor of my apartment building, but I asked a neighbor below me if I could come over if it got bad, and he said yes. So, Annabelle and I will be safer than if we stayed in our apartment. Thanks, guys. And my prayers go out to the other places expecting dangerous weather as well.

I know it's a pain for you but I'd love to see a tornado for real we rarely get any here. Either way of spelling the plural is fine according to oxford dictionaries.

I´ve never experienced tornados myself; however, I have seen documentaries and movies about them. They can be disastruous and I understand your fears. The safest place to avoid the dangers is in a basement. Hopefully, you and your family won´t have to confront this danger. My prayers for you!

Most people in Oklahoma don't have basements. In Oklahoma basements easily flood, so most people's homes have none.

@AmbiePam Sorry to hear that. Something can be done about it, since Oklahoma is hit by these kinds of natural disasters. Some kind of big building which functions against tornadoes.

Of late Oklahoma seems to be in the news all for the wrong reasons. I had the experience of a mini tornado in July of last year. It did leave behind a lot of destruction.

So far nothing right here but thunder and lightening and rain. I know there is hail somewhere around Newton. I do not really have a "safe room" but we will be fine. I hope you get online later and let us know you are okay. I have family in your neck of the woods and my niece in Yukon got a storm shelter built inside their garage, underground, last year.

I hope that the tornado misses you completely. I remember when I was a kid and we lived in NE, one night we went to the "shelter" a half a dozen times one night, they would give the all clear we would walk home and then the sirens would go off again. It was very scary. The next morning I remember my dad had to go to the bottom of the hill to get his boat, it had a few more dents in it but was still ok, it was just a little fishing boat.

When I was a kid I wanted to move to California. For awhile I wanted to move anywhere outside of NY State.. Now that I'm older and wiser I've realized some things. I don't get tornadoes.. I don't get earthquakes.. I don't get hurricanes. I get a whole lot of snow and a whole lot of really fricken cold weather. Yes we get wind chills in the -20's and occasionally in the -30's. Yes, you feel your nostrils freeze when you step outside, and sometimes it feels like your lungs freeze too... But you can prepare yourself for the snow and cold.. My pipes may freeze, I may have to shovel my roof.. But all in all the snow isn't going to destroy my neighborhood or level my house.. I hope you remain safe during this nasty weather! Please keep us posted and let us know you're okay when the storm is over!

I remember that terrible night that you and your Dad rode out the storm together. I'm thankful that your neighbour will take you in and offer you safety. Just know that I am and will be praying for your safety, and for your peace of mind. Stay safe my friend, stay safe.

I live in the OK also. A little nervousness is totally justifiable. The damage after the May 2013 tornadoes was horrifying. It seems like some things are only now getting rebuilt from that. Stay safe.
