Those two bands that just don't seem to go together, Talking Heads and the Eagles, are being showcased right now as I count down my top ten favorites for both bands. The Eagles were infinitely more successful commercially, but both are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as well they should be). Here's the next Eagles song. #9: Best of My Love I mentioned yesterday that most of my favorite Eagles songs were ones where Henley sang lead. On this song he delivered splendidly. The song drew on the country-rock roots that shaped the Eagles and several other bands in the L.A. area in the late 60s and early 70s. Bernie Leadon played the pedal steel on the recorded version; in concert, Don Felder provided the steel work. "Best of My Love" became the Eagles' first #1 song, topping the Billboard charts in March 1975. Its soft, bittersweet look at a romance that's seemingly on the rocks ("that same old crowd was like a cold dark cloud that we could never rise above") has always been a favorite of mine. Best of My Love Written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, & J.D. Souther Lead vocal: Don Henley From On the Border, 1974

It is a classic song. They will still be playing it on Adult Contemporary Radio, provided they still exist, 40-50 years from now. Maybe even Classic Rock.

If classic rock could only stop playing "Hotel California." Spoiler alert: "Hotel California" will NOT be on this list.

@FourWalls - Yay! Classic Rock needs to open up their rotation. A lot.

Linda should have covered this one. The Bernie Leadon Band opened for Linda the first time I saw her in concert.

I like Peaceful Easy Feelin'. I used to sing it pretty well.
