My "Bay Window" facing the east is like a garden. Right now the Hibiscus is blooming like a crazy plant, the Bay leaf is now five feet tall and the Rosemary is getting too big for the window. There is also a huge spider plant and several other plants including herbs, My living room is green! All of those plants live outdoors in the summer and come in for the winter. The herbs and Hibiscus are planted in the garden and the others live on the porches in their pots. Before moving them in the house in the fall I have to wash (spray) them carefully with soap to make sure they don't bring bugs into the house. I make the soap spray myself but I know you can find it in a nursery too. I love my plants but I am ready to send them outside. I want my window seat back. Unfortunately it is still freezing at night here. I'm wondering if there will be a summer this year. We had to scrape the windows on the cars yesterday to remove frost. I hope that will be the last time for this year. My plants want to go outside and I want them to go outside.... but I don't want to kill them. I'm no murderer! And if you are curious, that pink ribbon and item in the Hibiscus is an Easter egg decoration I didn't notice until I took the photo. it need to be put away for the year. .

I truly admire the lot of you how you love your plants and the care you take to get them in and then take them out each year. Your hibiscus is pretty.

@allknowing Its only around a half dozen that we move in the late fall. The others die and get planted again. These are big and special. And hubby does it, not me, I just water them....

Thank you. If we left them outside over the winter they would die, so be bring in our favorites. My husband (the chef) loves his rosemary and bay leaf...

i'm near green with envy! the hubs killed my yellow hibiscus - jest couldn't convince him they'd not be alright out'n the garage :( i simply adore that Easter egg myself - adds a touch'f whimsy :) i'm ready fer the plants here to make their exodus's well. i can't see out into my sanctuary clearly due to 'em. i do love that they all bloom throughout the winter, jest makes ya smile, don't 't? but, the time's come...i hope. normally they don't go out 'til 'fter the first'f may 's we're prone to late frosts. i checked the weather thingy though'n i'm thinkin' 'tis gonna be safe. i've already moved out some'f the more hardy plants 'n've been seriously thinkin' 'f movin' out some more today. only trouble's i've gotta wait fer the hubs. with the neighbors pup here, i can't jest leave the door open'n haul 'em out. the cat's quite frightened'f him. i believe he reminds her'f the pup that nearly killed her when she was wee :(

@PainsOnSlate i got a wild hair'n went 'gainst my own rule this year. got the plants (most'f 'em anyhow) moved out yesterday. 'twas such a lovely day with intermittent mountain-like showers. the hubs got'em all'n the deck outside my windows so's they can acclimate to the sun without too much stress. 'bout'n hour 'fter dark, the winds did howl 'n the temperature plummeted. our high today's only to be 46 degrees! 30 below our "norm" 'n nearly a 40 degree drop from saturday. the wind chill's currently 22 degrees.... i'm thinkin' i should'a stuck with what i knew 'n not listened to those weather folks. most've the plants look like they made't through purty well, with the 'xception 'f one'f the hibiscus trees. nah, it aint lookin' too purty't the moment.

It will be the end of May when mine go out and the gardens will be planted. I might put some seeds in now taking a chance there will be no frost by the time they crawl out of the dirt. You are so far south of us I'm thinking you are probably ready to grow!

It must be wonderful to work a garden full of flowers and plants. We alongside the highway where it's always dusty. We have a yard with plants and every time we water them, there's never a day they're not covered in dust.

We had a house near a highway and when looking for a new home I made sure that I couldn't hear the highway from the new house.. The noise bothered me more than the dust. But I do know how frustrating it is to be by a highway.

The front of my house is still under construction so my spring flowers suffered. We are taking a week away to fish and sight see up north (Praying for warm weather) and our son, our landscaper says it will be done when we come home. I certainly hope so, it was torn up in October. I'm sure the neighbors will be happy to see it looking beautiful again too.

@PainsOnSlate , it is just after 10 in the morning and already 22C outside, we wonder if we will ever feel cool again. But, I do hope your summer will arrive soon. I am terrible with plants, I try, but to no avail, you take wonderful care of yours, so they reward you with their beauty :)

Yes I was wondering what that decoration was. It's a wonder that you can see out of your window. I'm going to wait at least another two weeks before putting anything out in the garden.

Your hibiscus is really pretty and I'm sure you enjoy having all your plants inside for the winter. However, I can see how you are ready for them to go outside and have your space back.

I've never seen yellow hibiscus. I only know the pink and red variety. My husband is from the Italian island of Sardinia. There the bushes grow wild in the countryside. They need moisture from below. So, even if the ground looks dry, one knows where hibiscus grows there must be water.

i laughed the first time someone gave me a hibiscus and the instructions was copious amounts of water. It made me look twice and figured you can not over water this plant!

I think I still have a Christmas decoration or two hiding amongst some of my houseplants. They also need a little cheer! Many of mine are adorned with butterflies that people have given me as gifts. I do not move my plants outdoors. I would rather keep them inside.

I noticed as I was taking photos that some of my Christmas Angels are still out. How I missed them for 4 months is a mystery. I have lots of shade once the leaves come out on the trees so my potted plants go out onto my shaded porches and they love it! The herbs prefer to be in the ground and I think the Hibiscus likes the dirt too.

I still have a few Easter decorations displayed on our bar in the family room. In time, they will be packed away, but in my defense, I didn't put them out until late. I love your hibiscus, I've not seen any yellow ones before. But the colour is glorious. I like to relocate my indoor plants outside in the summer too, but my husband prefers them to remain indoors as he fears that they will get aphids or other bugs on them and we'll bring them in come fall. He worries too much!

read about it on line - I make a spray to kill all the bugs (soap and water) and douse my plants and let them dry before bringing them in in the fall.

Love the hibiscus. I didn't know they could be grown in Canada. We're already in the 90's here, so our plants are suffering from the heat. I've heard of the soap mixture for bugs before. Is it difficult to mix up?
