Packed and ready for my trip

This weekend I am going to Massachusetts to see my friend and attend her book launch. I fly out on Friday evening and home again on Monday night. My suitcase is full to bursting with gifts for her and her family and so far I didn't add anything practical like....clothes, toiletries, toothbrush etc. I can easily go away for a working week on hand luggage so I'm sure a weekend on a small backpack won't be too much of a challenge. And with an empty suitcase, it would be rude not to go shopping to try to fill it out a bit on the way home. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I can see you in my siblings. They don't pack thatuch clothes, they have gifts--more than their clothes.

but do they also shop for things here that they will use or need to take back the country they're from?

I hope that you have booked the flight from a UK airport and not a US one.

I'm pretty confident that there is no Heathrow, Alabama.

@boiboing I could not resist checking and it seems that there is a Heathrow in Florida, although it is unlikely to have an airport.

@Asylum I think this is one of the reasons that we don't have any airports that are just called 'London' - far too much confusion even within our fair capital.

I hope you enjoy your trip and see some sights, though what sights there are to see depends on where in Mass you are headed,

I really am only there to see people. I doubt I'll get to see sights this time.

I have to hope I stay healthy as I excluded the USA from my annual travel insurance to save money.

This truly must be a very good friend to fly all that way for such a short time. I hope you have a great time with your friend and that her book launch is a success. Safe travels.

we call those gifts 'pasalubong' and are eagerly anticipated because they are things you seldom see. what do you plan to buy for yourself there?

I don't really want or need anything but I may well come home with lots of 'Bath and Body Works' candles as my friend always takes me there for a bit of a shop.

@boiboing I also took some things I knew I was getting rid of, like old clothes and used those to sleep or lounge around in, and then just threw them away

I used to do stuff like that, and on a holiday to the US 8 years ago, I think we bought so much we had to get an extra bag (at the time it was 2 dollars to the pound and it would have been rude not to help Mr Bush with the economy).
