Dinner Time In My Yard

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

It is definitely dinner time in my back yard right now. No, not for us, but for the birds and squirrels. There are cardinals, jays, finches, and even doves. We had to put a feeder on the ground for the doves, and they just love it. I like how they are always in pairs. Soup's on! I mean Seed's on!

I've been filling our feeders with black oil sunflower seeds and the birds go crazy over it. The squirrels don't get much, but they are quick to gather up the seeds that land on the ground.

We have feed on the ground too, so the squirrels get their fill too.

I also put a feeder on the ground for the doves, they can be pretty noisy early in the morning, but they are cute.

They would struggle so to get to the seeds in the hanging feeder. Only one figured it out, so we put it on the ground to help them out.

We don't feed the birds anymore, because we travel so much. They get used to being fed, and then comes winter and.......

We feed them in the winter too. And also give them water.

Beautiful, I love Cardinals, though my favorite bird has to be a blue Jay.

Blue Jays are mean though when it comes to protecting their nests.

@cindiowens They're mean at the feeder usually as well, if I remember correctly.

@polyxena Yes, they are. They chase the other birds away. I have been chased and flogged by them as well.

I have to invest in new feeders for our yard. I would like to have them placed out of the garden beds. The seed spills in the bed of the garden and sprouts into long grassy type growth. Very hard to weed out too.

@cindiowenIs I have some giant sunflower seeds I am going to plant this year. I hope they do well. Usually I have a few that start in the garden bed, but mostly just the grassy crap.

@cindiowens Aww ... I love little birdies. I have two ducks, but they don't fly for some reason.

You can make one out of anything. You can even just throw the seed on the ground.

I hope the squirrels don't eat too much and that they leave something for the birds.
