I Think That We Might Have Found A New Place For Mom

Her money is running out quickly and we didn't know how long she would be able to stay in her present nursing home. I don't know how they expect seniors to pay the horrendous prices that they do. Our last mortgage wasn't even that much! However, we found something that is government sponsored, has a doctor who comes in weekly and nursing staff in each of the four "houses". All we have to do is get her signed up. I think that she will meet all of the qualifications. Now I just hope that she likes it. I have mentioned the fact that she might have a room mate! She's not going to like that :(

We need more structure for elderly people, those existing are too much expensive. I can understand that a room mate can be a problem for many.

I know... they really don't seem to care about the elderly at all! And she really isn't going to like having a room mate at all!

@Hate2Iron Most of people do not like to have a room mate and I can understand this very well, because we need privacy.

This must be a worry for all concerned. Nursing home placement is expensive here too.

It's going to be sad to have to move her... but we haven't any choice!

@Hate2Iron These decisions can be so hard but, as you say, sometimes there isn't any choice.

My mother is in assisted living. She hated sharing a room. Was not happy with her roommate and the feeling was mutual. They moved my mother to a room upstairs that she doesn't have to share. There will come a time when she has to move back downstairs and share a room. I know that this will not be easy for her. But, as I told her, it will be best for her so she is safe. I worry about her going up and down those stairs daily.

Stairs are a constant worry for us too. If there was ever a fire, stairs are the only option and she's on the 3rd floor.

I was going to say that you could try to get her into Good Samaritan Nursing Home which is non profit. She would have to have a room mate but hey if the money is running out which it does fast she will have to find another place.

I think that we will have to get her name onto a list really quickly. This one charges according to what she brings in. Most around here don't!

Nursing facilities are quite expensive. I hope your mom is placed in a nice facility. Nursing Homes are too costly for seniors and their families. I hope all goes well.

Outrageously expensive for what they get! Now if they could give them a better cost of living allowance...
