I'm so tired of being here / I could scream at the top of my lungs and it still wouldn't help

"I'm so tired of being here" is part of a song by Evanessence. I remember a few of the lines but not all, it was really popular about ten or so years ago. Anyway, I've felt like singing that song whilst walking into work several times here lately. I know I've complained a lot about work in the past several months, but here's another complaint. Did I tell you guys that I had called my manager on Tuesday night to sort out a problem with the scheduling for this Sunday? Well when I did I also asked if he was going to be there with us on Wednesday. He usually isn't, but I thought since we were having to pick up two more aisles that he would come in and work out where he had another day off instead. Well he didn't. In fact he said to me on the phone that "I need a day off too!." I don't begrudge him that, but I'll come back to that in just a moment. He also told me that one of my other co - workers wouldn't be here on Friday night (tonight) and so we would have only four with us tonight. Well Friday night trucks are smaller, so it wouldn't be too much more of a pain... I talked to said co-worker on Wednesday night though, and he told me that he didn't say that at all. That he had told my manager that he would almost certainly be able to come in earlier in the evening and take care of his aisle and go home. Here's another kicker. Through the "work grapevine" I heard that the reason why my manager wasn't there on Wednesday was because he had to take someone somewhere. I wont' divulge what and why, but I will say that if wires weren't crossed, and information relayed wrong... Well if this is correct, then he is flat out lying. I worked for him on Monday so he could do the same thing. Something doesn't seem right, but it's also typically his behavior. I get so frustrated and aggravated. I could talk a lot more about it and why I get so aggravated but I think I've said enough for now. I am hoping that tonight will go a bit more smoothly.

How the joys of working for someone like that! We always use to try treating our employee's with the best we had because working for self-centered think for themselfers are tough! Hopefully things get easier sooner than later!

It's still rolling downhill, so it won't be getting any easier anytime soon. People are leaving (one moving back to his home state) and others will be leaving in a couple of months time. We are already a small department.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Wow that will make it tough. It is hard to keep good employee's when management is awful.

Sounds like you need someone who actually has managerial skills to be your manager.

He's been with the company since before I was born. He's just riding the waves to retirement. It's not just him though, but the uppers. They don't see what he does or seem to care what he does either. He's an alright guy to work with, but it's stuff like this that is infuriating.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That isn't fair to those that he supervises. I guess you have no choice but to wait it out and hope that the next manager will actually do a better job.

I know that song well... our drumline played it last year as part of their show and I heard it a few dozen times over the course of a few months! Granted it was just the music not the lyrics...

Managers can sure act very idiotic at times. If things are so screwy why don't you start looking for work elsewhere? That is what I have done in the past. I haven't said a word until I had something. But, I started looking in my spare time. I would never stay in a job where I was getting the runaround or having screwy stuff happen. I once worked at an answering service nights. I would answer the taxi phone and the dispatcher was on the other side of a glass wall. The dispatcher would fall asleep and I would wake her up when a call came in. I had to put in through on this teletype thing. Half the time she slept through it all. She told the boss it was my fault. I told them to check the times on the teletype. They did and still I got fired for her lack of work. I was shocked. I learned and any time a job got screwy like that I had another job waiting in the wings.

It's horrible that you got sacked for her wrong doing! it's not so easy for me to find another job, not only because I have to rely on others to get me to and from, but because I have anxiety. I know i have stress and anxiety where I work now, but atleast I know what to expect. It also seems sadly, that it doesn't matter what is done because people just don't seem to get fired. If the uppers really paid attention and saw the goings on, but they don't seem to care too much. Only one does, and he has a hard enough time trying to get the others to see things when they really need to be seen.

Love that song. It's from a movie starred by Ben Affleck and his ex, jennifer Garner. I like Jennifer Garner more than Ben Affleck and every time I hear that song I am reminded of her. And about your manager. Can I just murder him?
