Will Ferrell was handed a comedy script about President Reagans Alzheimer.
How any writer could think that a person with Alzheimer's could be a comedy is beyond my understanding.
It is a heartbreaking disease that affects the whole family and there is nothing funny about it.
The Reagan family was quite upset when they heard about this and they voiced their displeasure.
I am glad that Will Ferrell has decided not to be associated with this movie.
Had you heard about this?

There is nothing funny about that. My mom was 55 when she succumbed to dementia. That was after a nine year battle with it.
I have a sense of humor. One HAS to laugh to put things in perspective. But when you mock someone who actually had it, you are tasteless and sad.

I heard it on the news and was appalled that anyone could thing that Alzheimer's is a funny thing. I would never watch this movie and I hope no one else does either.

Will Ferrell dropped out in less than 24 hours from the backlash. The project is meant to be a savage liberal attack on a conservative icon but they forgot one little thing: no one, not conservative or liberal or in between, finds Alzheimer's a laughing matter in any way, shape or form.

I had not heard it. And even if you were not someone devout to Reagan as a President, there are things that should be handled with respect.

Especially glad that Ferrell has decided not to be associated with the movie. Although I do find some of SNL skits "funny" ( because he came from there) a lot are borderline. Tina Fey says that the audience want to see a man dressed as an old women fall down the stairs while the writers want to see a real old lady fall down. Alzheimer's like you say is heartbreaking and does affect a lot of families, not funny at all

I am glad that he walked away from it also.
I think that it could be done correctly, minus the jokes and done more as a documentary style of a movie.
Very few people realize just how constant and ongoing this illness is and what a toll it takes on everyone in the picture, relatives, neighbours, and the individual themselves.

Yes and I really don't care--I wouldn't watch Ferrell in anything!!
Besides there has been comedies about cancer, AIDS, murder, Gays, etc., etc., all subjects that affect the whole family--why no outcry about those??

good decision, he knows that it's beyond comedy and in fact such could lead to insulting people with Alzheimer's.
