Storm damages

Well the tornado that hit our town missed my home, but we think it skipped right over us. The back porch is missing half of it's roof now, and you can see where the winds tried to rip the whole thing away from it's attachments to the house. Straight line winds might have taken away the roof pieces, but not the twisty type damage. I saw...well something. I heard a strange whistle and was standing at the back door. Heavy rain, whipping wind met my eyes, but then it went from standard storm to...well, the world turned white as the rain seemed to be flowing sideways. Even in torrential downpour I can normally see past the porch, I could not. We grabbed the dogs and sat in the one inner room with no windows. Then the power went out. As it seemed to quiet, we went out and noticed that there was some damage. Power didn't come back for hours. There is a Dollar store a bit from us, and if you draw a line from our home to it, you can see a rather clear line of destruction. Trampolines picked up and twisted into a mangled mess. Trash cans in the middle of fields. Limbs down all over. Trees down all over. Some look like they blew over. Some....look like they were twisted until they snapped. As of noon, there were still some areas where power was still out. I am glad we were safe. I know we pay for insurance but I hope we can afford to pay for whatever deductible needed to fix things. Yes, I know, we should have more than that in savings. That would require hubby having a job. Sigh. I am both thankful, and frustrated.

You need to be thankful that no one was injured. It does cost money in deductibles to fix things. However it could have been much worse. Glad you are all okay at your house.

it's just...if it's a couple thousand dollars, we simply dont have it. I hope it can be worked out, and not hasten the day we lose the house because of lack of income

me too, so far we haven't touched a thing, nothing is leaking that we can tell, but we dont want to mess with anything until the inspector from the insurance looks at it

I have spent some time in the basement growing up because of hiding from the storms, but I think this might have been the closest I ever was.

the whole experience was rather freaky, I have never in my life looked out the window to see the world go opaque/white like that. Even when it was raining sideways I could still see the grass and the yard.

@Jessicalynnt Yes it could have. You could have been without a house. I'm glad it wasn't worse.

I hope you can come to a good agreement with insurance. We never seemed to have what we needed. Have you not heard anything about the military?

I am glad your safe-that is the most important thing. My sister in law and brother with their kids went into their safe space because of the tornadoes. =( I am sure that is so scary-I hope I never find out.

we really are lucky, which is why I feel guilty being frustrated, but hubby lost his job in Jan, so losing the house due to lack of money is a real poss. and things that cost us money we dont have keep happening
