Back in the 1990's, when acid jazz was in it's heyday, Japan had a thriving acid jazz scene. Possibly the best acid jazz act to come out of that country is United Future Organization. United Future Organization (Tadashi Yabe, Toshio Matsuura, who is no longer in the band, and Frenchman Raphael Sebbag) formed in 1990. Much like Greyboy and Jestofunk, the trio serve as producers while using live instrumentation. Their 1993 self-titled album, which is very good, contained a little gem called "Poetry and all that Jazz." "Poetry and all that Jazz" is a bit of a gritty acid jazz number, highlighted by a recording of Jack Kerouac reading a spoken word beat poem about a subject of which he had much passion: jazz. What is more groovy than Jack Kerouac reading about jazz over jazz? It's one example of what acid jazz is all about.

Tend to think of Japan as a bit of musical backwater, but maybe they are on the cutting edge of some genres

That is pretty neat. Like a poetry show with jazz music.

I love it. Of course, I'm an acid jazz fanatic.
