#5 of my Top 10 Favorite Reggae Songs series takes us back to Jamaica, and double Grammy award-winning reggae legend Burning Spear (Winston Rodney.) #5 is the title track from Burning Spear's 1975 album Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey, who died in 1940, is a hero to the Rastafarian movement due to his tireless advocacy for black rights. Garvey has been honored by several reggae acts, but as far as I'm concerned, Burning Spear's tribute is the best I've heard. It's an energetic roots tune, and although it was recorded 1975, it still sounds fresh all these decades later.

Amazing roots music. It really gets you in the heart. It's like the beat just tunes in to your body's pulse.

He's really good. Burning Spear Live in Paris is one of the best reggae records I've ever heard.
