Demerol is Evil

Never, ever take Demerol! I was given this pain killer a few weeks ago for my tooth that needs a root canal. What the dentist didn't tell me is how addictive the stuff is. I found out when I went to the doctor the other day about a weird migraine I had and she told me. Not good for someone who's had past addiction issues. I mean, I knew it was addictive but not that it was one of the worst painkillers for addictive properties. Oh God, am I paying for taking it now. I didn't take any yesterday and today I've been going through withdrawals. I was up since 2 AM, shaking like a leaf, and crying uncontrollably. Even taking a dose of my sleeping medicine this afternoon didn't help me take a nap. I finally gave in about 20 minutes ago and took half of a Demerol pill. I hated to do it, but I was going insane! I'm going to have to wean myself off this stuff I guess.

@Hatley Had to try to come off it cold turkey again, for reasons not of my choosing, and man does it suck!

I would call your primary doc and ask what you should do and how to go about dealing with withdrawal and weaning

She already told me to just not take it at all, which obviously isn't working.

I don't think I would take demerol on my own, especially after reading your story. But I sure loved it when I was labour and when I was experiencing a miscarriage. It was administered by a doctor by injection. No chance for improper use. I know I had 4 shots during my labour with my first baby but I was in labour for 36 hours... but a little under 24 hours in the hospital. The doctor gave me Oxycodone when I had really bad menstrual cramps. I would never take that again. I stick with my Tylenol 3.
