Retirement is great. In spite of it all.

I have been retired for sometime and there are pros and cons to it. I thought I´d lose some of my friends at work, but I soon discovered that my friends were not those people I worked with. They were only colleagues. My real friends came from other places. And all of them proved to be faithful during years and years. Of course, retirement brings money problems. I had to learn to live on a budget and that meant doing a lot of the housechores by myself. But I can do all I want and have all the time in the world to do it. And my real friends are here for me. I will enclose a pictture of a party at my home a few years ago. I only have big partys for my birthday and I cook everything at home. What do you think about retirement?

I am still adjusting to the financial aspect. I may go to work again if I were to find just the right thing to do.

A part time job would be a wonder, but it is not easy to find, at least here.

I'd love to find myself a little part time job just to bring in some extra money.

I love being retired. After 50 years of being locked into a rigid schedule I can now do whatever I want whenever I want to.

I think retirement is different if you have a spouse or someone at home to take care of.

Like you there are pros and cons. I can do more now and go more places than I was able to before and not on a schedule. I can eat when I want to.

You are so right! I remember that when I was teaching, I had to eat something between classes as I did not have time to have a proper breakfast.

I feel the same way as you do. I'm happy to be retired and have the time to get the things done that need doing. I have adapted to living on a budget and enjoy having my family for gatherings. Looks like a great party in your picture!

It was a great party. I have one such party a year. The rest of the time I prefer to have one or two couples. I don´t have to work too much that way.

I haven't worked in 14 years, but raised my sons and took care of the house while my husband continued to work. Now my husband has been retired for 2 1/2 years and we are loving it. Yes on a fixed income but we are doing fine and loving life.

@marguicha That's wonderful. My husband and I love to fish, so that's what we do mostly, We go camping and fishing at lakes in our state of Illinois. Sometimes we venture to other states as well.

I am still young to retire but I see myself enjoying my retirement age. I would like to continue travelling and reading books. I also see myself being a good writer and I will still enjoy it during my retirement age as I will be publishing books a lot.

Just see that you buy books with bigger letters when you are older. I read a lot more years ago, but now my eyes are old.

I'm not quite sure if I'll ever retire from my own business. I'm hoping i would die knowing my business still exists. So I never thought of retirement at all.

I always do about the same for my birthday. Two or three kinds of cold meat and many different salads, cooked and raw, plus rice. All were cooked by myself.

Sometimes not maddening crowds but maddening people.I work with 2 people who are just awful to each other. They are both very nice to me but fight each other almost weekly and i find myself caught between. The worst is when one of them asks for my support and i know i don't want to be pulled in fights that are not mine.

Why there is a gap with colleagues and friends. If colleagues are not friends how will you manage to work in office?

I have been retired for over 15 years and love it. There were a lot of adjustments, and since I have moved three times, I have had to find new friends. Belonging to a church, helps to meet people. I am very happy being retired.

I retired 13 years ago. The job was so hectic and stressful. I miss the paycheck but not the daily grind. I have not been in contact with my work colleagues and it does get kind of lonely at times. It has been hard trying to make friends now.

@just4him I had a friend after my husband and it was nice. But I would not have married him for the world. And if someone crossed my path, I wouldn´t mind. But not as a husband.

Although i officially have over 20 years to go, im looking forward to retirement.I hate working for someone, making them rich and i remain poor. What about dragging myself out bed early winter mornings. Im sure retirement will be great for me.
