Spring is Sprung!

My living room ready for the decorators (almost)

... The grass is riz I wonder how my living room is? The sun and warm weather are here (for a few days, at least) and we have contracted a decorator to repair some cracks in the living room ceiling and redecorate. This, of course, involves moving a lot of the furniture, all sorts of knick-knacks (and finding things long lost and forgotten), taking down the curtains (which need cleaning) and re-thinking the layout. How much it will all cost (including around £90 for cleaning the curtains) is up in the air at the moment. What it is to be offered a loan by the bank at a reasonable rate! I think that, at the end of it, we shall be rid of a few bits of furniture, have a little more space, possibly a new TV and, hopefully, be able to revisit my vinyl collection of folk and classical music. Naturally, this wasn't my idea. It was all the brainchild of "'Er Indoors" or (as Rumpold of the Bailey has it, "She who must be obeyed"). How does your spring look?

Good luck with all that! Spring is pretty much over here...we'll be in the 90's this weekend, so that's summer to me.

I always think of May as the beginning of Summer and really the end of Spring but April has been so chilly this year that Spring doesn't seem to have progressed and, this week, at least, Summer seems to have sprung itself on us! We expect to be in the high 70's this weekend.

@owlwings I think many consider Memorial Day the official first day of summer. To me the first day of summer is the day we open the pool.

@owlwings The funny thing is that around here, the area with the highest density of rectangular blue patches in the gardens is also the same area that was not long ago the car crime capital of Britain. I wonder if there's a link? From ground level it doesn't look like the sort of place you'd want to live, but I flew over once in a hot air balloon, that was an eye-opener!

a bit dusty, some storm damage, snake problems, and stress, sadly, certainly not boring

Does it mean that for every season you do some refurbishing of the house ?

No, it seems to be Spring when the urge is strongest. I think it must be the sun shining in and showing up all the stains and marks which you don't see in the winter in artificial light. Perhaps 'Spring Cleaning' is a mostly northern and southern tradition rather than an equatorial one?

@owlwings Maybe . Here in our tropical climate we always clean because it becomes dusty after a few days .

My wife always goes on about refurbishing our house ,but I keep throwing cold water on it.I know it takes some doing apart from costing an arm and a leg .

We're moving to a different flat in our house in about two weeks and a lot of throwing away is being done at the moment.

I remember that you said how much you liked the flat you were in (for various reasons). I hope that this one has as good an outlook and enough space. It is a big upheaval to have to move (especially at our age). I hope you will. at least, be able to look back on the experience and say "Well, that wasn't quite as bad as we expected" and that you will be able to find some positive justifications for the move. My heart is with you!

I believe that you don't have 'spring' in the Philippines. Your weather is very different from ours!

I know this scenario well because I recently had new flooring layer in both bedrooms and the bathroom, which led to purchasing a few new items to suit.

I feel May is the beginning of summer too. It is nice here right now with a rain and possible thunderstorm coming in the next few days. I do love a good storm.

how do you plan to dispose of the furniture and knick-knacks - donate, sell?

The day bed and a large cabinet which I am thinking of getting rid of have little value. I will probably donate them to a local charity which specialises in re-upholstery and refurbishing.

I have been doing a bit of cleaning, trying to tackle a small job each day. It is getting warmer here now, lots of sunshine today.

Spring cleaning with a vengeance. It's a hassle while it's being done, but it will be worth it in the end.

It is summer here at my end and it is hotter than hell.By the way, I like that peach chair. Very pretty.
