Is there too much emphasis on earning money here at myLot?

All of a sudden I am seeing lots of discussions regarding earning money here at myLot. It seems that quite a few are really into earning money instead of what this site is all about - interaction with friends - while earning a few pennies as a side benefit. Anyone who really needs to earn money to pay the bills, this is not the place to do it. If you are here to earn a few extra bucks a month for fun, that's a different story. Some people like to brag about how much they make or complain about how much they don't make. This isn't a job, this is a fun place, or it should be. If you need money to pay the bills, then spending hours here earning a few cents doesn't make sense. Think about it..... I spent a lot of hours here over the winter and did very well...but now I'm not spending so much time here but I am enjoying it more. Go figure! Invest your time wisely. I agree, it is a reasonable source of a few dollars while interacting and chatting, but would never realistically qualify as a source of income.

Yup and sadly many don't understand that whole concept. I am here for fun and fun I am having. The little bit I earn is not the important thing for me, but I will certainly take it. It pays for my netflix every month lol.

Every penny I've made online and mystery shopping - since 2008 is in a bank account. Some day I should spend some of it! LOL

I don't believe anyone will make enough to pay their rent or house payment from the money they make on here. I like the interaction and the money to me is just an added incentive.

I absolutely agree, the bit of money we do get here is a nice benefit but it's not everything. No one could live off of what we make here.

I look at it as one drop in a stream of income I get online. When you put it all together, it does add up after a while.

Although we enjoy and having fun interacting with every one here but earning little cash help us to motivate more to interact with others. It's a sort of added inspiration. Just my thoughts.

I think that they will only realize that once they got the payout and compare it to how many days it take to achieve that certain amount. Truly, this site is only for fun and not for a serious money making business. This cannot replace the real jobs as it only gives little amount.

@AbbyGreenhill But for some people who do not have any jobs yet, they will stay here more just to get even little earnings. Every cents count.

I do come in here, but I am not in here as long as I used to be, as I have other things to do, that are more important than being in here. I do come in to do the notifications, and respond and comment, but I just don't spend the hours in here that I did before. I still love it here though, as I always will. I will come in whenever I get the chance.

@AbbyGreenhill I know what you mean. I am not here all that many hours either, as I have things that need to be done, and sitting in here doesnt get them done. I am crocheitng baby items for a gal at church, and since it takes time to do them, I wanted to work on them now, so I have them done in polenty of time before the baby shower, so I can give them as gifts. I do more of that now, than I am in here. I will be in an out though, just not spending hours and hours and in here. Life is just going to fast as it is, and this is a great site, but I still don't feel like spending my life in here and not doing antyhing else, so I certainly do agree with you on everything you said.

Right now I'm responding to all the comments on this discussion, once I finish I will read and comment on others and then I'm done here for the morning and might come back later fo an hour or so - but no more 7-8 hours here...I'm too old to let life pass by like that.

@infatuatedbby I just feel that there are better ways to spend time making money - if some needs $10 to survive that person needs to find a place (a job) to earn it faster. Spending hours on here is not the way to go.

Money is the main purpose of everyone here. Once myLot stop paying, it will go down again. It's the paying social website which attracts others. This is simple, there are lots of people and they will do this nonstop.

@lourdjan Welcome to myLot, just remember you won't/can't earn a lot of money here. If you are on her many hours each day you can earn maybe $15 or $20 a month - but it takes a lot of time and effort.

I think so and agree with you. Of course it's nice to earn a few bucks and trying to reach the $10 is a nice motivation. But we don't need endless posts of earning reports and how to make more money here. Focus on good posts and comments and the earnings will naturally come. Plus you will drive yourself crazy obsessing over earnings.

I think that if anyone is so destitute that they are willing to put in 8 or more hours a day here to earn $1 - they need to find another way to make money.

@AbbyGreenhill So what you are saying if I understand you correctly is that posts that present themselves as getting rich are annoying like someone bragging (really not much of a brag ) but those that talk about money in general are fine? It is difficult to know what posts when they are not mentioned (something we aren't suppose to do) as it is kind of a guessing game trying to figure out which ones are okay and which ones are not okay.

How the site works discussions are helpful to new people as long as the emphasis is not on 'how to get rich'....
• United States
6 May 16
@Bluedoll When someone posts one after another such as "I made $1 yesterday" and the same type post day after day. That's annoying to me and to others. You can't get rich here so I don't think too many say that, although they might think it. Everyone can write whatever they want, and we have the right to not read/comment/like anything also. We all have our 'I don't care' discussions...I don't have kids, so I don't want to read about diapers or teething...so I skip them.

Very well said, this is not a job substitute. It's a funny place to chat with friends, but not a place to "make money". I also spent many hours here in winter, but from now on I will be here only a very little time. I want to enjoy the beautiful warm days outside and not in front of my computer.

Thanks Abbey, beyond money one important point is that many discussions which I created thinking a lot of people are going to respond, no one responded. The other ones where I was very casual talking of daily food items, there had been huge response. It is tricky which discussion picks up storm.
