Have you turned on your air conditioner yet?

I'm from the Midwest USA and we normally do not have much of a spring. It usually goes from cold to hot (or so it seems). Some people have a set time that they turn their air conditioner on. For example, I have a friend who will not turn her air conditioner on before June the 1st no matter how hot her home gets. I understand that some people do not want to have a big electric bill so they wait until they absolutely have to turn their air conditioner on. My husband and I are on are actually on a very tight budget but he can not handle being hot and he works very hard so he should be able to come home from work to a cool home. I personally used to get very hot but since I've lost weight I tend to not mind the heat as bad. So if my husband didn't mind it I could wait to turn the air conditioning on. We have had ours on for a couple of weeks now though. What about you all?

would having/using electric fans be cheaper or would the electric bill be the same? i have a female relative who works out a lot and said she's sensitive to cold because she's very lean.

The humidity where I live is very high so using electric fans doesn't cool the house off at all during the day time. At night the temps do drop some though so a fan in the window would be sufficient for me but my husband would not go for it. I seem to stay pretty cold lately due to the weight loss myself but I wouldn't call myself sensitive to the cold.

I had already switched on AC in Kolkata. Temperature has gone to 40 degree centigrade. I switch it for half an hour then switch it off. Then put on the ceiling fan.

Well it is about 40 in the mornings here so it is far to chilly to put an air conditioner in the window here in Pennsylvania. I usually leave it in the window year round and cover it outside with a blanket and plastic to keep it from the elements so it won't get ruined. It also keeps the cold air from coming in the house. I was really mad when my man moved in here and took the ac out of the window. He likely will not be around in the summer to put it back in for me. It is very heavy so I cannot do it alone. It is hard to find someone to put it in the window for me.

Ours won't go on until it gets hot here. That won't be for several more weeks.

It's been hot here for several months already and I always turn the air conditioner on. Wish we had four seasons.

It's oven-hot here in our home too but I avoid getting into the room with aircon on because it's like hell when you get out later. I'd make do with the electric fan or go out into our backyard. My wife puts on the aircon when she naps in the afternoon and the moment she gets it on, I get out of the room right away.

in my country where the heat index is at 45 degrees Celsius, the air-condition and electric fans are always open.
