Tell me why I don't like Mondays

At the time those Boomtown Rats were singing about Mondays, it made sense to not like them. Mondays meant school and work and an end to that whole weekend freedom of laziness. It brought structure and schedules, meetings and deadlines. But I don't have to get to work on Monday morning. I don't have to rush to school. I don't have a term paper due in History that I didn't start writing until Sunday night. I have to get The Boy up for school on Monday. Could it be that I miss him? I really don't mind it when he's home - except that he reminds me to make meals, which I could more easily forget to do if it were just The Man and myself. Most of the time, he's busy doing his own thing with his computer, his X-box or he's outside practicing his soccer footwork. And he's handy for when I want something heavy moved from one spot to another and then back again when I realize that room configuration just won't work. He's hardly any trouble except for his appetite. But I think it's more than that. I think I am still suffering Monday morning school avoidance syndrome. It is just that now, it's Monday Morning School Avoidance Syndrome by Proxy. I get nervous about the first day of the school week because others have to go. Too much empathy, perhaps, or a persistent, latent fear that I never managed to shed even when I threw away my school gym uniform. I don't know why, but I still don't like Mondays. I can see no reason, cause there are no reasons. I want to shoot the whole day down. Tell me why.

Haven't got a clue... I guess with me I always liked mondays, I liked Friday better but I liked school...there must be something in adulthood. that turned you off of Monday's maybe working or something you accociate with Monday like laundry...

I never liked school. It interfered with my education. I guess it's one of those strange phobias, like the sudden fear that overcomes me when my nostrils detect the first whiffs of Spring. I don't know why Spring is so scary, it can be very pretty.

@PainsOnSlate I have to be honest with you. It's more than a bit.

@Rollo1 you are a bit strange but I think we could be friends. I would help you enjoy spring. At this point in my life every morning I wake up is a good day...

I can't help you with that. I don't have such a Mondayphobia. But I hate mornings and I know the reason why.

Of course, you were the teacher that we were all trying to avoid because we didn't do our reports

I can see no reason either, but I also do not like Mondays. I do not work anymore, I am at home, do the same things every day, but for some reason I do not like Mondays.

Do you think it is a leftover feeling from our pasts?

@Rollo1 Yes, I am pretty sure that it's a leftover feeling from the school days.

Hiya John! Nice to see you here Mondays do just suck and I suppose it doesn't matter what you have to do or not do, there's no good reason for a Monday at all.

The silicon chip inside her head switched to overload... Simple. Don't ask me why she had a chip in there, perhaps it flew off the big one on her shoulder... Or she was a chip off the old block, with a Daddy who didn't understand her. Good article, and a good song.

Those without silicon chips in their heads never understand what causes overload, I guess. Maybe it's just Monday that does it.

@Rollo1 Probably. Not keen on the use of Hump Day for Wednesday either, gives me the hump...

I never liked Mondays either. Perhaps because the hair salon is closed.

I would think Mondays would just be the beginning of the week and you could look forward to the end of the week on Friday then you have the whole weekend to dream about things.

Monday just has a negative aspect to it in my thinking. Must be leftover angst.

The Boomtown Rats song was specifically about a girl who shot several teachers and pupils at a school to liven up a Monday when she felt bored

I think that perhaps her boredom was more like mental illness. Fridays are boring, they are the days that go so slowly because you want them to go faster.

Some people don't like Monday because they do a lot of things in their regular jobs.

Since I am retired, I just love Mondays. I used to hate the Sunday nights before more than the Monday mornings.

Now I have that song ringing in my head - ha ha ha, ear-worm . . . Tell me why I dont like Mondays . . I feel they are the TONE to which the week is set - so if its a bad Monday, it inevitably is a bad week - my Monday today was good, so here I come . . . a good week hopefully

@Rollo1 Its raining today, so the cold has arrived in full force. Winter is here and I can re-set the cupboards completely now. no inbetween-weather-stuff anymore

I'm a weekday person. I don't like weekends. Everything is crowded, TV schedules are off, Church is twice in one day making two trips to the same place, fine when I'm close but mine is 12 miles away. I like the orderliness of weekdays, privacy at the beach, business as usual, post office has regular hours, library is open. I love it when Monday comes around!

I don't watch TV, so that doesn't bother me much, but I can see why you would prefer not to make two 12 mile trips in one day.
