Lately I wanted to apply for a subsidiary credit card for my child so that sometimes he can go to the supermarket to buy something for me. I called the bank to ask the procedure and I was told that my son needed to be above 16 years old so that he could have a subsidiary credit card. That means to say he has to wait for a long time.

Give him a smartphone since retailers have Apple Pay, Alipay and WeChat Pay available. Remember to customize extra locks on the apps.

@artemeis I bought the normal phone for my child since I don't want him spend longer time on it. You know today there are quite a lot of children who play the phone and misuse it. But I know sooner or later I will buy him a smartphone.

@youless I used to fuss what type of phones to get for both my daughters, but with the phone security apps which includes location pinpointing I just did not have to think further. Normal feature phones are no longer practical even for the aged considering the various useful apps for them as well. Back on this topic, I feel that the online payment features are quite useful compared to them carrying their bank cards (personal or supplementary). So when their smartphones are lost, we can still be in the control seat to prevent any big loss.

Then we have to be patient to wait for several years and so far there is no other better option.

im not too sure about this. i have never been comfortable having my name attached to something that involves money. but if its my child, i might consider doing it.

Here you could send him with a debit card and a pin number, or simply keep cash on hand to send with him if you need him to get something for you.

In fact I think it is more risky to use the debit card rather than credit card.
