Worthy of Her Money

The retired , widowed aunt of my husband who came home for good from the US, finally had her birthday blowout last Saturday night . Actually her birthday was May 02 , but since my daughter has just arrived last 11th and her sister also arrived from Manila, 7th , she decided that it was May 14th for the blowout . She paid for food good for 30 persons and we had an exclusive use of the function room at the second floor of a famous Chinese restaurant which my daughter chose . Actually the others weren’t able to come but nonetheless we took out the excess foods prepared . But she said , her money was so worthy of the occasion because she had a wonderful time catching up with everyone of her immediate relatives present last Saturday, a picture of which is attached . I think anyone would do the same if you haven’t been with your relatives for a long time , like in her case it was 21 years ago since she last saw my daughter who was then just 4 year old . Would you also spend much for a blowout if you were in her stead ?

it's actually easier when you overestimated the head count because you just divide them among yourselves to take home. it's harder when there are excess people because it takes a while to cook the additional dishes and they have to set up the additional tables, chairs, plates etc.

Indeed . The left overs were put in plastic packs and given to each family . There were lots of leftovers but Auntie didn't mind she paid much .

Yes, she is staying here for good . Actually , her room which was added some years ago , is now filled with her boxes from the US about 30 of them , sent over the years . So , my brother-in-law gave up his room and just stay with her mama whenever he is home on weekends meanwhile that a storage room is yet to be constructed when her check from the US clears. She will store all her things there while the others will be disposed . She likes going to the mall with me . She's always treating us to eating at the mall.

@SIMPLYD it is nice to have a person who lived abroad to come and stay in your house; you will learn new things from each other. but be careful my friend, especially if some of your neighbors or other people know that a US citizen, and rich at that , is staying in your house. you must always be vigilant.

I suppose that she saved just to have the pleasure to have this blowout with all the family. I think I would too.

Actually no . She converted some of her US dollar pension making it a lot , since the exchange rate is 47 pesos . Her pension is so much more than for herself when converted to pesos .

@LadyDuck Yes, we have a room constructed for her years ago. It's filled with big boxes of her things in the US yet to be opened , when a big storage room will be built for them . She has her dollar account, so anytime she can withdraw in dollar which she exchanges to peso to use here .

@SIMPLYD Do you mean that from now on she stays in the Philippines? If she has to go back to the United States she needs her dollars.

Yes, I will. If it is only the easiest way to put or unite our relatives, then I won't mind if how much it would cost as long as I can meet my relatives and friends.

Yes, it also depends on the resources . This aunt will be staying with us for good and has a room built for her already . She is already a US pensioner , has no children t share her money with except with us and her relatives .

Well, she doesn't like that because it would be tedious , preparing the house and the foods and the utensils then cleaning up after , which is true indeed . At least with something like this , after some eating and chatting and laughing , we will be just going home with the takeouts .

@SIMPLYD Oh no I didn't mean cooking by our self. Catering company will take care of that. We have a place right in front of our house which is owned by caterer who specializes in weddings and receptions. So, having a private bash is easy in our case.
