How Old Are You? I Am Insulted…Would You Mind?

I am not sure for some people if it is fine to ask about their real age by somebody. I had noticed that some women are in rage about it. Is there something wrong implication if being asked? For some reason, some women find it insulting in their part. It could be keeping their age not to be judged by people. I am so curious why they reacted so intense about knowing their age. Can it be a denial sort of thing? There are so many situations that we can always be asked with such question. For instance, a job interview will always go down to be asked about our age. Another, it can also be asked in submitting a form or participating a survey. Now, I am being curious why do women feel insulted. Are there any thoughts about it? Photo Credit:

I think if you guess someones age and you're way off then they can be insulted/offended. I would rather be asked my age then have someone guess.

@sharon6345 Hehe yes! You look young!! But there are times when I have seen some guess wrong for people and when they reveal their true age the women get shy. If it works out, its good but if it does not it can insult people.

@infatuatedbby In some point, we just say our age and not feel offended when guessing the right age. @sharon6345 I also feel the same way. I look young at my age. It is a feeling of having good compliment from others.

I've never objected to anyone knowing my age, but I wouldn't come straight out and ask another woman how old she is. Like you say - some women are sensitive about it.

I think sensitivity relates to many factors. Women between 18 to 25 or even 30 would have no issues. But beyond that there is subconscious awareness of biological clock. If the woman is unmarried she would definitely hurt. If not, then it serves as a reminder of how close she is to that. Beyond the menopause too, women would be happy if nobody asked till about 50 or so.

@Shavkat ... In general, why such questions are not asked of men? If gender equality is to be weighed then if women can be asked their age, men should be asked their wage. lol If there is shame associated with wage, understanding the plight of women in relation to biological clock...should be easier.

@vandana7 I totally agree. Most single women are so sensitive about this concern. It can also be a sign of failure why they haven't married yet. For some, they choose to be single and no worries about their age.

I haven't a clue why some women get upset by someone asking their age. I am a woman and I don't mind at all. Not telling someone my age doesn't change the fact of what my age is. I always say my age, however my older sister hasn't said her age out loud for decades. SO....... I say it for her quite often just to piss her off lol.

@fishtiger58 It is also the same thing with my close friends and cousins. They tend not to say about their age especially for those considered to be single.

I feel some may feel they are categorized/bracketed by age but I do not mind. In fact, I had my age shown here but I saw most did not show it, so I removed it. Yes some insecurity could be a factor - siva

@Daljinder I can understand as some have certain agenda not conducive to open exchange of views that is the lifeblood of sites like these. I come with an open mind and age and gender do not influence my take on what is shared. I try to take them positively whatever the age or gender. That helps us to understand life and lifestyle better. To be frank, I see no age, gender, belief, nationality differences as I perceive the oneness of humanity in all with the same yearnings, hope and fear. Everyone is anxious to leave a positive mark and to be loved and even cherished - siva

@Shiva49 I had mine displayed here too. But removed it later on to avoid stalker situations. Also there are people who like to interact with people of certain age group. This kind of defeats the purpose of the site since in discussion you can't ignore a person because he/she doesn't match the age preference you have set for yourself.

Well, if it is for those purposes you have mentioned it is okay , because it's understandable that it's needed . But when it's out of the blue and the question just suddenly cropped up , a woman would be insulted specially when she is already matured like me.

I am depressed of the fact I am 30. I do not want to say it unless people ask me about it. Lucky for me,They still mistake me as a teenager. A Strip club didnt asked me for my ID because they think I am a minor. I look Young but I hate the fact I am 30. I think women wanted to hid their age because they age faster, Look in our country 30 year old actresses plays mother roles to teenage kids while 40 year old actors gets leading ladies old enough to be their daughters.

Not sure it is enraged. It could be none of someones business? The anger part could come into it when asked repeatily even after showing that information is not being made available?

@Bluedoll It can really be irritating moment if asked in a barbaric way. In some point, it is not appropriate to ask if the situation is not relevant along the course of the conversation. It can also be depend on personal agenda of the person who is asking the real age of someone.

It depends on the situation, when the older lady said "manang" to younger lady, the younger lady sometimes ask the age of the older lady to point that she is the younger one and shouldn't be called "manang".
