I solved the problem

unless I didn't... So the car has been pretty good the last few weeks, but it occasionally won't start. Dealer didn't get the problem. Tonight I took a lot of short trips, and on the last one it wouldn't start for an hour. I was getting ready to give up and call AAA, and then I remembered when I had it towed. The towing guy had us put it in neutral to get it on the truck. When we got to the dealer, the darn thing started. So I had Tony put it in neutral and back in park. Voila, started. So today's theory is that there's nothing wrong with the car starting, there's something wrong with the gear shift. The car doesn't realize it's not in park, so it won't start. Next time it won't start, I will test the theory. And probably be wrong again.

At least you're narrowing it down to possible solutions!

I hope you're right, nothing worse than a balky vehicle.

Dunno, but it does seem to start in neutral or putting it out of and back into park on the first or second try.

My theory is that car mechanics can't always solve the problem !
