Why responses in notification reduce down in Mylot?

On one day I open the site My lot and go to the notifications.
I find around 620 notification. I look for the responses.
Then I respond to the mentions of members of Mylot. I also search for interesting discussions and comment on them.
Two days later I fine the in the notification the numbers have reduced down. Instead of 620 now it is 585. Why does this happen?
Do the members who make comments or responses leave the Forum? Or they erase their comments?

Could it be that the system automatically erases the oldest responses or comments?
