Lost The Money She Won

I happened to read this story about a woman who was brought to court by her husband for not disclosing the money she won in the lottery and not disclosing it also in their divorce papers. In the end, all of the money she won was awarded to her husband. For not disclosing only, she lost all of her money. What a very disappointing and depressing situation. Which is proper? Be honest to tell someone that you have won or just keep it to yourself?

I definitely will not disclose to anyone, especially to a husband I want to divorce. I will keep the money hidden. Even if the court wants me to hand over, they cannot trace the money.

@magallon If the sum of money is large enough, and the jail term is just a few weeks, it is still better to go go jail, and you get to keep the money.

@scheng1 .. yeah, i think i'd rather do that too if the jail term is for how many weeks only. What if it is for a long period like 10 or 20 years?

i am also thinking about that. maybe they're not in good terms already before she won that's why she made that decision.

@MGjhaud .. or could also be the wife is fed up already on their relationship. so many possible reasons to think about but the end of it all is the husband has the last laugh. i feel pity for the wife. i'm angry to the husband. he should be ashamed,of it. its not his money.

I think if there is no plan to handle the money then such incident happen. And there is not much one can do. So always plan with low money and high money. plan has to be there.

@magallon I thought about it all the time, it makes you think you can survive and just throw your family away. for this moment alone I think im better off not winning the lottery

@Letranknight2015 .. family is the most important thing to us. why do we have to throw them away if we'll have plenty of money? share it with them instead. that's the right and best thing to do.

She divorced her husband few days after she won. We just don't know her reasons. The story says, because of greed.

the story also says that if only she disclosed the money during the divorce, she more than likely would have been able to keep all, or at least half of the cash.

It was her money. She should have told her husband. Especially since court was brought in

yeah. It;s really hers. Maybe she is innocent about the law. I think it is considered as conjugal property, that's why.
