Missing Flights

A person I know had texted me she had been waiting at the airport or over 2 hours on Sunday and had missed her flight at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. They wanted her to sleep in the terminal at the airport but she told them she couldn't do that because of her back problem then they proceeded to book her a room at a hotel. I then saw online that hundreds of people had missed their flight. It seems that this summer will be a time to stay home or at least not take a plane anywhere because of having to wait in line for so long and miss flights.

I recently missed my flight that was from Delhi to Mumbai. I got late by only 15 minute but they did not allow us but my good luck was that they arrange a new flight I the evening just free of cost.

@Marcyaz That would suck! I'm sorry your friend was in this situation. How can people sleep at an airport anyway? Would be very weird and uncomfortable.

@VivaLaDani13 I would rather go back or a hotel nearby than wait there. But who knows? If Dad is with me then he might decide to stay and with him, we might as well have to.

They showed on the news the other day the longs lines at the airports. Having to check everyone through takes a lot of time. It can only get worse this summer. Ugh!

She missed the flight or her flight was cancelled? If she missed it herself and the hotel booked a hotel that's very sweet and complimentary? But if it's cancelled due to whatever reason that's an inconvienence but nice of them to get her a hotel!

@infatuatedbby Yep from what I understand they had to open up more counters as the lines were so long.

odd time of year for delayed flights, guessing weather?
@Marcyaz (35316)

@jessicalynnt Nope not weather it was because they don't have enough people who can scan the travelers so the line backs up and over 500 people missed their flights.

@Jessicalynnt It is being said that it is all of the large airports that are having this problem.

I'm surprised at a big international airport like that.... that the line was sssooo long.... sounds like bad management or poor staffing issues...., i'm glad of the fact that they booked her a room ...thats as good as accepting responsibility.... hope she has shorter lines next time...

@sueznewz2 They are looking into hiring more help but can't be good for business. Most people wouldn't think to say they have a back condition and can't sleep in the lobby.

@Marcyaz wouldn't have thought that would be very good for business if they have to pay compensation out....

Sounds quite frustrating. There will be lots of traveling going on in the summer. Some people become very inpatient when they have to stand in line for long periods of time.

@Teep11 I imagine there will be some very angry travelers if they don't do something before the summer travel time.

Flying is becoming a tense activity these days without the delay of flights as well.

Missed flights do happen, but it's no reason to stay home.

@just4him I would definitely stay home as it is only going to be worse until they hire more people.

I Europe if its the airlines problem, then they have to look after you - which sounds fair to me! After all I kept my side of the deal by turning up on time. I've only had one problem with a flight was in Canada and they gave us a free meal, not bad for an hour's delay

That was pretty good compensation for an hour's delay.
