Hi, It is usually observe and been said that people who stay in hotel while on short trip uses Hotel's provided things like - soap, shampoo, towel, brush, tooth paste and blanket. But when asked do they carry all those things with them while checking out ? 4 out of 10 said Yes, they take those towels along with soap, shampoo, brush and toothpaste them. That was shocking for me. Hmm I agree I do take the soap with me while I checking out from hotel. There is reason, I use the things which my mom gave me while leaving house - Like a soap ( 1-2 for clothes and 1 for body ) shampoo , brush, tooth paste etc. I use them since I am comfortable with them. And I don't want to change it. But while leaving the hotel those small packed soap come handy in case in mid of my return journey I have to go to wash room and there is no soap wash my hand My mom said - never use other's towel. So I never use them in Hotel. What's your story ? Do care all those cosmetics, soap, towel, brush, tooth paste and blanket with you while travelling ? While checking out the free service ie soap, towel, brush, tooth paste and blanket , do you take them with you? Have you ever did that ? What was the reason behind it ?

I haven't stayed at a hotel since before teen years. But Dad had several times and so does my brother. Dad brings those packed soap with him for same reason you do. As soon as he is home those are discarded. Bro is whole another story. He is cleanliness freak. Doesn't like his things touched by "dirty" "germ carrying" hands or things. So he takes and use his own things. He wouldn't share either. If he does he wouldn't use it himself again.

I am guilty of taking home truckloads of them, The stay in the hotel is expensive so I have to get my money's worth. I also take home the sachets of coffee, salt and sugar. I once took home a bottle of hot sauce from the hotel too.

That was funny. I accept that stay in hotel is costlier as compared to the service they provide. Thanks for sharing ... Good to see honest responses rolling in. for you.

@UR_Forever_Raja Don't call me clepto but I accidentally took home the hotel bathrobe before. I am too lazy to return it so I kept it.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I never stayed at 4 star or 5 star hotels. Though I have been in 3 star hotel 4 times in my entire life. So I never seen Bathrobe . Accidentally doesn't mean that you are clepto. Sometimes when you carry too much of stuffs and you change plans at last moments and sometimes you are just not you and since you are lost such things happens.

I carry mine with me. But I love trying different soaps and shampoos. If it is different than mine, I might be tempted to try it out. If the bathroom is not sufficiently clean, I will definitely use it, and even take it. As to towels, I prefer mine...blanket, usually I use that provided by the hotel.

First night in a hotel is always difficult for everyone at my home at least where they can't sleep for hours. It is not easy to adjust easily. But second day we are so tired that - even you give me bed of nails I can sleep on it :D

I don't bring towels or blankets but I do bring soap and toothpaste. I like my own soap since hotel soap dries out my skin.

I do take all those freebees except I never would take their towel or blanket just the little extras they provide. Why you ask? Because when you pay for the room that is included in the price of the room so why would you leave them behind.

I bring all of my own things as I'm very picky about my hair products. having said that I do use the lotion that the hotel provides, traveling makes my skin dry. I do take the shampoo and conditioner from the hotel with me, and my daughter uses them. She loves all that tiny stuff. I also will generally bring my own pillow if I'm driving and not flying. I don't take any of the hotel bedding, bath towels or any other items that might be in the hotel room. Basically I just take the shampoo and conditioner and the lotion, everything else stays.

I take everything but towels with me just in case the hotel doesn't provide what I need. Its more to pack but better to have more of what I need then less.

I used to want to take those little hotel goodies. Since I was a kid, I always took the little note pads and pens . . . later on in life I loved taking those little soaps and such. But eh, not anymore. I have way too many papers and pens . . . and these days we just use up those provided goodies so we don't have to pack them. Actually, a lot of them seem a bit harsh, so we don't care to take them home. I never took the big stuff like towels - I always thought they charge you for it if they find them missing!

I carry my own shower gel, bath scrubbie, tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo, deodorant, comb, shave gel and razor with me on a trip. Most of the less expensive hotels/motels here do not provide those type of things for their guests. At least not in the parts of the U.S. where I have traveled. I don't carry blankets, sheets or pillows with me on a trip. I use the AAA handbook and don't have to worry normally if the beds have clean sheets or if the towels are clean, soft and fluffy. I will do a quick check of the room as soon as I get there. If it doesn't smell fresh and clean, I don't stay there and I will call AAA and make a complaint! On the flip side of that same coin, I am willing to give the maid who refreshes my room a nice tip if they have everything to my liking. That is being a good customer. Oh, as far as TAKING anything from the motel/hotel that I didn't either bring with me or buy while I was there, no, I am not guilty of stealing anything. Two reasons: 1. That's theft and I won't do it. 2. You normally use a credit card or debit card to check into one of the motels/hotels here. If something comes up missing from the room you stayed in, your card will be charged for that/those items. You might recover the money, IF you take the motel/hotel to court. They have to show that you were the last person staying in the room before the item(s) came up missing and that there was no reasonable way someone else could have taken whatever was missing. You might as well save yourself the court costs and attorney fees. Just let them have the money for the item(s). It will cost you much more than the item(s) are worth to hire an attorney and fight them.

I bring my own things. It's robbery if bring things hotel owned during checkout. They'll check them and if caught, the hotel may land in jail.
