Diary Friday 20th May 2016

After a long job search I had my longest visit to my mum’s hospital bed-side to date, spending most of the afternoon and early evening there. She was quite chatty today but she had a terrible night, struggling to breath and at some point falling over trying to get up to go to the toilet despite being instructed to use bedpans – she is wired to many monitoring devises and drip feeds and occasionally even a dialysis machine. A patient from another bed died. We shared time in the waiting room for visitors with some of his relatives. Another patient was very aggressive in his hallucinatory rage, shouting randomly that he wanted to go home right away. My mum was asleep when we left the hospital about 8pm. Hopefully she will have a peaceful night’s rest this time. Arthur Chappell

@trivia79 she had a severe heart attack in March, and last weekend her medications on top of not eating enough food caused her kidneys to shut down so she is now back in hospital in intensive care heavily dependent on machines until her body recovers enough to let her come home - it is very dangerous for her

I hate it when people go into hospital and the other patients behaviour or circumstancds affect them. So hard to deal with on top.of caring for your own loved one.

That's the awful thing about hospitals - people die, and others scream and shout.

she is too unsteady on her feet to make the journey to the restroom and too hooked up on drips, monitors and sometimes dialysis machines too

@arthurchappell then yeah, she had best stay put, they may have to put a movement monitor on er so an alarm goes off as she tries to get out of bed

@bluesa estimates vary but it could be a month before she is well enough to leave the hospital at present

I hope she has a peaceful time. Hospital is not always the most restful place!

Oh, bless her. Hospitals are horrid places to spend time. How can you get better when people are dying and going crazy around you? Hope her body recovers quickly so she can go home.
