Bluebird of Happiness

Canada

I took this photo while at my sister's place. The bluebird house was full and a lot of activity was going on as the babies were learning to fly. It was great entertainment but far enough away from the house that zoom had to be used to catch them. The babe's were flitting around but were never still. I did catch mom and dad watching the young ones a few times but I never got to photograph the babies. Silly me, I should have used my video....duh!

what a great sight to behold! i so love watchin' the wee ones 's they learn to fly. the parents fussin' 't 'em, the wee ones hollerin' back. the odd places they tend to land when they've tired quickly (like my shoulder, lol). ya got video with yer camera?? i sure wish i'd such'n this'un 'f mine. been doin' me some huntin' online to see if'n i can find an affordable get'p to use out here. t'would be nice to share some moments'n my lil sanctuary with video - the capturin' 'f birds singin'/fussin'/fightin', winds makin' music'f their own whilst goin' through the trees, the gentle call from the herd.

@PainsOnSlate oh, they've plenty'f fear! ya can nearly see their lil hearts burst outta their wee chests when such occurs. 'til they settle down a bit'n realize that'cha mean 'em no harm, they're welcome to sit there 'til they're able to fly off yet 'gain. the hubs bought me a spendy camera some years back fer Christmas...to replace mine that he broke. we put a roof'n fer one'f his friends one year 'n refused to take any pay (aint that what friends're fer??) - he surprised us with a 55-250 zoom lens (nearly fainted't such generosity! cost more'n the camera) 'n'd not take no's'n answer. he's the same camera. sadly, such'll not take videos 'n a macro lens's 'bout $350. i've been huntin' fer a camera that'll do "all that", smallish 'n can withstand the weather out here. if'n yer son finds ya one, please holler't me. i'd be most interested'n what he's found :D

I am so jealous that they land on your shoulder although they are fear free when little and don't know any better...very cool! My camera is a Cannon. Its quite old - 10 years old and it cost me around $50. That was a lot of money but I was looking for some specific things, like video, macro for close-ups and zoom. I need a new one and will be looking soon, my son is good at finding the best camera fro the best price.

@JudyEv I think she only has one baby, when I went out to water the plants I heard one bird making very light chirping noises...I guess it was hungry, mom arrived and I had to get in the house, she won't fly into the porch (where the nest is) if I'm out there.

lol You can't think of everything can you. I saw some pheasants out the kitchen window yesterday morning, I went to get my camera but guess what they had flown away by then.

@PainsOnSlate We have a turkey we see down one of the roads here but it takes off before I can get a picture of it. It is frustrating isn't it?

Our mom and dad bluebirds have been quite busy bring food to the nest. I don't hear anything from the nest, so they must have just hatched in the last day or two. I can't wait until they come out and try their wings.

@PainsOnSlate Our (I think there are 4) are still chowing down, keeping mom and dad feeding them, so they are still a ways off from 'leaving the nest'...can't wait when they do try to fly!

The babies were testing flying and it didn't look like it was an easy task, They fluttered to the ground, their wings going a humdred miles per hour. So cute to watch and they got better fast.

It is a big deal. @crazyhorseladycx told me the babies while learning to fly will land anywhere, even on her shoulder. I was staying away from them but maybe next year i will get closer...

@miniam I keep getting more and more orders for slate for the stores that sell my work. I am not complaining, I enjoy taking checks to the bank. It just takes me away from my computer, but I am still here when I need a break...

At least you caught one in a photo. Years ago I managed to catch one off guard while they were at one of the feeders. Of course it was a blurry photo. They are beautiful.

I always wonder how they get back to the nest when they're first learning to fly. My doves seem to be pretty good at it once I see them flying.
