I was reading a discussion by @ChildofGod81 about donating her hair for children which reminded me of when my hair was long.
I used to donate my hair to Locks of Love.
Now that I keep my hair short I no longer can donate.
Do you donate your hair to any organization that is if you have any hair?

My hair has never been long enough to donate. If it ever grew long enough I would love to do that. I think it's wonderful.
I helped my mom with her non profit organization though, giving hats my mom knit to cancer patients.

That was good of you to help your mom by giving hats she knit to the cancer patients. To bad your hair isn't long enough for you to donate some.

@Marcyaz I've never donated my hair before. I knew people could sell hair but I never knew hair got donated.
Also, it's so nice to see a photo of you! Very lovely photo too!

@Daljinder I sat and looked at her photo for a while and feeling sad. I miss her. But it is nice to see her again. Smiling.
Yeah I mean I think all that is a personal choice but I'm not sure how it may affect the family. It's a good question to ask though...hint hint...
Funny enough Wes and I were talking about this the other day. And I said yeah I would if my hair was long enough. It's not long enough yet to do so.

@VivaLaDani13 A couple of days ago when you and others were mentioning how many people we have lost in 2016, I was thinking of her!
I reckon it's a personal choice and I had already made one about how I want to be cremated. I have told my parents during casual conversation. Not sure of they took me seriously but at least they know that I have thought about it. I will let them know once again. But donating organs is whole another level of choice. I think I have mentioned eye donation once to them. I don't think they took me seriously, though!
Mine are long. They come to my waist. So, if I cut a few inches or even if get them trimmed, I lose a couple of inches until they reach just below my mid back.

My daughter in law loves to grow her hair long and then donate it. She looks good with both long & short hair and lucky for her that her hair grows fast

Sounds like she has donated her hair many times which is something I love to hear. It is lucky her hair grows fast.

Speaking of hair donation, I read this extremely touching story of a young boy who grew his hair out and fought all kinds of bullying in school just so he could donate his hair to cancer patients. And he successfully did. However, after a few days he noticed that one of his eyes was being progressively shut and he was not able to see much from whatever part of it was open. Turns out the poor little boy had cancer himself. This is such an unfortunate turn of fate. Makes me wonder about the peculiarities of life.

How terrible for that boy who was trying to help those with cancer and then he finds out he has cancer himself. I hope he is helped by others.

@Marcyaz Yes. Its so terrible. I felt so weird after reading it! Almost like it was the most unfair thing that could happen to him!

I tried to sell my hair once, through an online site. Nobody wanted it, which I thought was odd since I was told red hair would be snapped up in a pinch. But, meh. Oh well.
Have you looked into Locks of Love?
Snopes says, "As much as 80 percent of the hair donated to Locks of Love, the best known of the charities, is unusable for its wigs, the group says. Many people are unaware of the hair donation guidelines and send in hair that is gray, wet or moldy, too short, or too processed, some of which is immediately thrown away. Even hair that survives the winnowing may not go to the gravely ill, but may be sold to help pay for charities' organizational costs."
Locks of Love also said, "We provide hairpieces and repairs free of charge or on a sliding scale based on the financial need of those responsible for the children.
So, basically, if they know you can afford it, you're on the "sliding scale" rather than the "free" list.
It sounds like a slippery slope to me.
Huffington Post said Locks of Love had over $6 MILLION dollars worth of hair missing from their donations in 2013.
If I'm going to donate my hair, I think I'd rather send it to Wigs for Kids, or Children with Hair Loss (the latter of which NEVER charges for wigs.
Anyway, sorry if I sound like I'm poo-pooing your act of love. I think it's great to donate. But when we go through the trouble of growing our hair and sending it in; when we expect our hair to be used to help someone only to find out it's been sold for "organizational costs" or flat-out thrown away, well, it irks me a bit.
Know who you're donating to.
That's all I'm saying.
A charity that provides wigs to underprivileged children is being pressed by a nonprofit watchdog to account for $6 million in "lost locks." Locks of...

If you decide to let it grow again and then want to have it cut don't forget to donate it.
