Back from Portland with pluses and minuses

The good news is that the move from my daughter's third floor apartment to her house a few miles away went smoothly. We had an all Samoan born crew, three very strong young men who handled everything with care. They were great! However, my very independent daughter did not want us to really help unpack the many boxes and get things put away, so our assistance was limited. A big plus was some great food. My daughter was too tired to meet for dinner Friday night, so Anne and I went to Jake's Famous Crawfish (their spelling) for dinner. We did not have craw fish, but the sea food was wonderful. My daughter also treated us to some great hamburgers and Mexican food while we were there. Coming back on Sunday, we detoured to visit Schreiner's Iris Farm east of Salem, Oregon. They have an Iris Festival each year at this time and propagate such beautiful Irises! It was a rainy afternoon with rain so hard at times that visibility was limited on the Interstate, but we made it home safely. I am not sure what you get for $28 in the photo, but I hope it is more than one Iris bulb. Have you grown Irises?

Yes I've grown them, but got rid of them as they only flower the once. That price seems far too high. I'm glad that you got some good food while you were away.

They will bloom every year if the bulbs are taken care of, as I understand it.

@JamesHxstatic and @jaboUK - My mother's irises in Missouri bloomed throughout my childhood, and I don't believe she gave them much care ... although I know she dug them up a couple of times and replanted the bulbs. I always thought they were easy to care for.

so glad she'd those strong young fella's to tend to all that heavy liftin'! i don't blame yer daughter fer not wishin' y'all to help her unpack though. no doubt she'll do such't her own pace'n then know where most all's :) i nearly fainted'n the price tag myself! 'tis been years since i planted iris, mainly coz the gophers're quite fond'em. i'd sure be hopin' that fer that much money, one'd get 'nough bulbs to fill a garden bed!

Me too! I have not looked at the price list we brought home, but we won't be buying bulbs that expensive.

Glad you made it home safely. Years ago when I was working in a gas station a young lady came in. She had a bumper sticker wired onto her front bumper that read, "I love crawfish!" So I said to the her, "So you really like crawfish." She asked, "Why is everyone asking me that?" I told her about the bumper sticker. She jumped out of her car, ran to the front of it and glared at sticker. Then she said, "My parents! I'm going to kill them." She explained to me her parents had just come back from vacation and must have put the bumper sticker on her car.

Maybe the $28 sign is in the wrong place? For that price I want groceries. It is nice that your daughter is now moved to her new place and hopefully will be happy these.

I have lots of irises this year for the first time. My husband insists on calling them 'flags'.

That iris farm must have been beautiful. I've transplanted iris- the common purple bearded ones- from the place we lived in about 18 years ago to our last house and now here. Iris are hardy and actually need to be weeded out from time to time cause they get so crowded.

When I grew up in Missouri, my mother had beautiful irises. I have never grown them, but I think I should plant some. They really produce beautiful flowers!

Yes, but the type I grew were grown in my lily pond. I have not grown them on dry land since I was a kid.

I hope that for $28 you have a full bag of bulbs. I grew the Irises years ago but I did not plant again they flower only once and do not stay for long time. I am glad that your daughter move has been smooth.
