This was always one word to bug me and not sure to define it.

Mick did background vocals. I seem to remember that she finally broke down and admitted that part of the song is, as everybody speculated, about Warren Beatty. Not the whole song,and it's only what I think I remember. Which means I'm probably way off, but I know I read it somewhere.

Love Carly Simon. She has always been one of my favorite female vocalists.

I like the way Jane Austen says it:
"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us." Pride and Prejudice
That's not a definition precisely, but it's one of my favorite "vanity" quotes.
I like that song. My coworkers and I were quoting it just last week.

I think the lyrics of Carly Simon's popular song perfectly describe being vain. It's a person who thinks everything is always them. Cool throwback!

Everyone should have a bit of vanity. However I believe "vane" is when a person's vanity comes before all else in their life.

What is that old saying? Vanity thy name is woman? My mother used to call me vain when I was a teenager because she couldn't tear me away from a mirror! lol These days I'd just as soon cover them all up. Ahhhh how times change. Love the song and love Carly's voice.
