~Giving Hope To The Hopeless~

My husband's cousin is going to be homeless in 20 days. They got served yesterday about back taxes, they either have to pay thousands of dollars or leave their home. For most people and even them this is horrifying news. But at the same time their living in a 450 sq. ft home with 7 people. Could it be a blessing in disguise? They have been wanting a different/bigger home for a long time now. With mine and my husband's help they will get into another house-we will make sure of it. Our landlord has many properties so we are going to talk with him and see if anything is available. Plus I am going to be looking on Craigslist every day as well for them. I told them yesterday that we have been homeless many times and every time we got through it with God's help and now we are better off than we were before! Sometimes we go through terrible things so we can be the hope to the hopeless when they go through something hard...

I don't like uprooting folks. Seriously some memories are hard to let go. Moreover, I love my home. I am going to be the best person to look after it rather than some tenant who feels anyway it is rented home. To me 450 sft is not small...I have lived in a house that small.

But she said there are 7 people in that 450 sq ft. which leaves very little space. But then, again, a home is a home.

@vandana7 They do have 7 people living in that much space-trust me it is very small for a family of that size. They cannot afford the taxes so they cannot stay there no matter what. Since they cannot stay we are helping them find another home.

How true sometimes we lose our faith because of something like this happening but then later on you find it was a good thing and you are better off now then you were before.

@Marcyaz Yeah it is easy to lose faith if you have no one to help or give you some hope. That is what we are doing for them. =) Yes I am very grateful we can now be a Blessing to others.

It's not always easy to deal with situations such as this. But I'm sure that they'll find something. It's also nice that you are helping them find something.

@dodo19 No it isn't. I will definitely be working on finding them a home. And I hope we do find something for them.

Sounds like quite a wake up call. We are tested all of the time in this life. My daughter and I have been homeless before and it is scary. But, we made it through. I hope that they are able to get legal help and get through this.

@celticeagle Yes we are all tested in many different ways. It is scary, I know it was for us too. Thank God we made it through as well and now we can help others in small ways which is amazing!

I agree on the point that we go through life challenges and difficult phases so that we could grow out stronger and help others in the same situation better. Hopefully they will something to look up to soon!

@Daljinder I hope they find something soon as well. And I hope we can give them enough hope to get through the tough time they are going through right now.

@sabashekh Sometimes life is unfair but when we feel like that it always helps to give a helping hand to someone who has it worse than us.

@LovingMyBabies I agree :) Whenever we complain we should think about the person who can't even dream of it

Though I must say, you are a great family and your last statement on this discussion -Sometimes we go through terrible things so we can be the hope to the hopeless when they go through something hard... is so very right, but there maybe another aspect that you should consider before asking your landlord for availability - You mention they did not pay taxes. Though this is not a very big thing here in India (and maybe at your place too), still, I think it would be all good if you look at their capabilities to pay their rents on time. Maybe I am wrong here (more so because I do not know anything about them, beyond what you mention on this discussion), but if they fail, it may not be great for the relationships that you might have with your landlord.

@thesids I have thought about that and that's the only thing that worries me a little bit about asking my landlord about homes. The thing is it's not that they just don't want to pay or don't care. It's that the husband only makes $600 every 2 weeks. That's not enough for their family. The wife doesn't work because she's waiting on disability to go through... I will probably just keep searching on Craigslist for them, or explain to my landlord their situation as he is a wonderful person.

450 sq feet is tiny. We're seven people in a 700 sq foot hunt camp and we feel cramped. Glad they have you and your family to try and help.

@koopharper Yeah it is extremely small for all of them. I hope and pray we find something that will be so much better for their family!

This is very good of you.People generally do not want to look back at the difficult times they had been through. But as you are willing to help them hopefully they can get a home.

It seems odd that they wouldn't be able to make payment arrangements to settle the back taxes over time...
