I read a discussion written by Jabo about old Irish sayings. I thought they were so interesting. I love all kinds of folk sayings. So, I'm sharing some of our Appalachian folk sayings. I heard them everyday when I was growing up, but people have forgotten and moved on.
That dog wont hunt. Meaning that is not true.
Crazy as a Bessie bug.
Meaner than a striped snake.
Puffed up like a toad frog. Angry
She can't carry a tune in a bucket. She can't sing.
He's so tight his shoes squeak when he walks. He's frugal.
They worked me like a borrowed mule. Worked him hard.
He lies like a yellow dog. Tells lies.
She's squealing like a stuck hog. She speaking harshly.
She's got the big head. Thinks she's better than anyone else.
She's bright eyed and bushy tailed. She's at her best.

I like those sayings. They're cute with a hint of profound truth woven in between the lines.
Only one expression came to mind as I was reading. Not sure how popular it was, but remember people saying it when they thought a person was really stingy with their money and uncharitable.
They'd say: Don't ask them for a donation. They squeeze a dollar bill so hard they make George Washington cry! You knew that person was definitely an “Ebenezer Scrooge-type”.
