My Doctor was scratching his head...

Canada
May 28, 2016 2:05pm CST
I had my yearly blood work and Physical with my doctor, my GP who takes care of all the everyday problems and looks after us and sends us to specialists if needed. I always have a list so I remember to bring up all the things in his office that have been bothering me at home. Most were everyday things but I was having trouble with dizziness, not the Vertigo (I know how to get rid of that) but being dizzy every time I move, stand up sit down, lay down - you get the picture. I also am having memory problems and don't want to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist. When I told him about the dizziness he went to the history on the computer and in a minute turned to me and said you've lost 20 pounds this year. How did you do that? I told him 5 days a week at the YMCA and the fact I'm seventy years old and not as hungry as I was when I was younger. He liked my answer. He said one of the meds I take was too strong for the "lighter me" so he sent me to the pharmacy to get it changed. Immediately ( the next day) the dizziness was gone...yea! On Monday i have an appointment for a memory test. I am looking forward to finding out why I can't remember yesterday. Fingers crossed that will stop as quickly as the dizziness. We can hope!! The photo I took a couple of summers ago in the Finger Lakes Region in New York State. I love all things rural.

You know that is a good point about the medicine being too much for your weight now. Was it a blood pressure pill? Because I had the same problem and I decided to lower my pill and I feel a lot less dizzy now. Seeing the cardiologist on June 13 and will tell him at I did then.

@cyberrat I do the memory test and will ask them to scan my meds and see if any of them could be the reason for the memory problem.

cholesterol pills can have some pretty nasty side effects

I'm glad he figured out the dizziness thing for you. I am not on any meds and get that every now and then. I really hate that. Good luck on the memory test.

I passed my memory test so now I'm not afraid of dementia and that type of things so now will look into my meds... There has to be a reason my memory is so different.

@PainsOnSlate Well you could be right, the dizziness was meds so maybe the same can be said for the memory problems.

I am noticing that my 3 days a week at the Y and one day at the senior center have been making me not only feel good but I lost 2 lbs this months which put me on schedule to lose the 20 this year as well. I sure hope so. I am so glad they could figure out your dizziness and I hope the memory issue may be a medicine as well

My problem is now in the system now and I will be called back in 6 months. I passed my test with flying colors. The nurse who gave it to me was interesting and very kind. We talked for quite a while. She said there is no dementia or signs of Alzheimer’s in my head and that makes he happy. i suggested my meds be looked at and she put it in my file so my doctor will see it and address it to me the next time I see him. She thinks my problem is age and nothing more. I can deal with that. It feels good now that the bad stuff has left the building... @jaboUK

@PainsOnSlate - Gotta step into the doc's office carefully if there is a sign on the wall that says, "Before I check your blood today, I'd like to take a look, to see what's going on in your pocketbook."

@Ceerios No insurance is needed, hospitalization is free, doctors even specialists are free...but our booze and smokes costs more than yours and our gas is higher than yours, all sin taxes go to pay for our free medical. But it's worth it.

That is the only thing we in Ontario don't need to worry about. We have socialized medicine and I have never paid a cent to a doctor since I moved here from Kansas 36 years ago.

Oh my, I pray nothing is wrong with your memory. That is my biggest fear as I get older, getting dementia. I want to be able to remember all the good times of my past.

Didnt know that when you get older you are not as hungry, is this a fact or you were just trying to be funny? Let`s hope they find something for your memory too, just dont expect to turn it on like a light switch, might take time. You have a lovely day.

It is the truth. I eat at least falf of what I ate when younger.. I don't snack either anymore. I passed my test, my mind and brain are fine but I still don't know what is causing. Next step is have my doctors revisit my meds.

I was happy and todays test makes me happier. I need to relax, I don't have a memory problem, just getting old. I am going to discuss meds with all my doctors to make sure the memory isn't haywired because of meds.

Before getting too worried: You remembered all that you shared here-so what is it you are having a problem with as far as memory? After reaching the end of your post it occurred to me you did a pretty good job here remembering what you wanted to say, so hope all is well!

My memory is different than it was a year ago, I've had a few very scary moments and I want to address them. Hopefully it will be nothing or just age related but if its worse than that I want to know and find a fix if there is one. Thanks for your confidence.

Saw the nurse, had the test and passed with honours...it's not dementia or thT other biggie, glad to hear that. Still don't know why, perhaps old age but I think I will look for a meditation class at the Y. Grounding myself might help my ditsy blonde attitude and help me to focus...

Isn't that interesting that the pills relate to bodyweight? I suppose it's logical when you think about it. My memory is getting bad too but mostly in not being able to find the words I want when I want them.

The good news is its not the bad scary things, The nurse who tested me said I passed with honors. Age is the culprit. But i can relax now that i know I'm not crazy.
