Do you bite your nails?

I have a meeting with 3 colleagues. While we were discussing plans about sales and marketing, this beautiful girl while listening she is biting her nails. Is it a habit or a sickness? or maybe she's not aware that she's doing it. I read from blog of webmd.com a topic about why we gnaw our nails? Stress and boredom are the main nail-biting culprits for most people. The habit is often a way to ease anxiety or to keep at least one part of the body occupied while the mind lacks interest. Frustration and loneliness are additional emotional triggers that can lead to nail biting. Some research suggests genes may play a role. I'm not sure which one is on her mind. But I guess lacks of interest is the answer why my colleague is biting her nails.

I used to bite them when I was a child and during my teen age years. I donĀ“t do it often, in the present; however, occassionally, I do.

@valleyofberaca Yes, it always occurred to me that whenever I got nervous, it would always follow a bite of nails.

@valleyofberaca I used to bite my nails. I think it was a combination of nervousness and habit for me. Thank goodness I stopped years ago.

It's good that you were able to overcome it. Because this is a habit that we are not aware doing even in public.

Indeed! Parents should correct their child whenever they saw this kind of habit. It is bad as well as unhygienic.

@abhinalstrikr It depends on the grown up if they want to quit this kind of habit. It's a matter of decision.

Really? If there's a blood involve out of biting nails, that's more than stress or let say a situation that has no solution and sometimes out of our control.

It's never been one of my habits. It was one of my sister's though. She used to bite her nails, and it took her a few attempts to stop. I believe she now no longer bites them.

There is only one reason why I bite my nails, though rarely - when I have a broken nail and I have no nail cutter handy . Other than that, I do not have this habit.

Thankfully no, that is not a habit I ever developed. Perhaps because I have very hard and tough nails so it is too much like hard work! My partner's mother always bit her nails until she managed to give it up recently around age 55.
