Really? The Macarena?

Man the DJ at the party a few houses over is scraping the bottom of the barrel. He is now playing the Macarena after playing the Cupid Shuffle and Cotton-Eyed Joe. Seriously. The. Macarena. Unless this is a party for 40 somethings, they won't even know the song. It isn't widely played like Cotton-Eyed Joe. And I can tell you one thing. . . the song hasn't aged well! Yikes!

I think it is one of those classics - love it or hate it - that will be played for the next century . The last time I heard it was on a cruise last year and everyone young and old got into the action.

Lol well I am 32 and I remember the macarena clearly from when I was a teen. I was at a semi-formal dance with my kids a few weeks ago and the DJ played that too as well as cotton eyed joe. I think some of the kids knew the dance to the macarena. I know I showed my daughter and my niece the video a few years back. My niece learned the dance for cheerleading.

Oh my gosh - we went to a neighbor's party recently where there were a bunch of graduating high schoolers . . . and they actually played the Macarena too. I hadn't heard the song in a long time . . . and upon hearing it, I remembered how I've never cared for the song nor the silly dance, and I was quite surprised that some of the kids actually knew the dance!

I know the Macarena but have never heard of Cotton-Eyed Joe. Oh dear, guess that makes me 40 something, doesn't it? (And a good deal more than that too!)

Too many parties play it, but I am not a big fan of it.
