At about 11a. I was working along on here and a page took over my Mylot page and said that my Facebook sign in, credit card details, email acct. login, and sotred photos had been compromised and that I needed to call this number right away. I shut down my computer because all had frozen up and tried booting up again.Got it again so I called the number. The tech I talked to(supposedly Windows) took me to Wikipedia and showed me the info about a bug called Koobface. It is a take over from foreigners and they hack into your network and use it to do crimes and take your banking info and so force. He said that I couldn't use my computer anymore because of this and any other iPads, computers, cell phones, etc. on the network were also compromised. None of us can use any of these things EVER. I can't go online anymore supposedly. Has anyone heard of this "Koobface" bug? Is it legit? I am intimidated but hope this is a hoax like I have had online before. I am not amused. I hope I can do something online. Everytime I try to that page comes up. They want me to pay $300 to have a anti network programmer clean all this up and secure the network for lifetime. He got loud and kind of nasty when I told him I had no money. What is up? Is this real? So if you don't see me on here this is why. If it's real.

It's a SCAM. Reboot and everything should be good. I hadn't heard of this one, but the Microsoft Scam works the same way. They put out that number and then when they get you on the phone, they have you hooked. So good thing you didn't have any money. I fell for it too a couple years ago, and was glad I didn't have any money to give up. Then I found out the scam it was. NEVER call the number. Just reboot your computer and everything should be good.

I thought it was a scam. Hoped so too. But, it did sort of scare me. I have had them call before and they just didn't sound right so I called Dell and they said they don't call like that. I think I even remembered this same number. He started getting loud and sort of nasty when I said I had no money.

@celticeagle The people with the Microsoft scam did the same with me. I was scared too that something was seriously wrong with my computer. I learned from that and will not have anything to do with them. I just close out my browser. I almost had a Microsoft scam again today. The browser started to open up, but I closed it right away before I had to do a CTRL Alt, delete on it to get it rebooted and continue working on the computer.

When they said you can no longer use your computer anymore, it is obviously scam. I'm not a techy person but I don't believe in them. Good thing you posted the issue here. You have received so many comments which are of great help to you.

I wish I would quit calling the number. I've gotten this before The computer is so important to me, a real outlet for me, that I do the 'what if' a lot. I don't want to lose use of my computer.

@celticeagle You need to find someone in your area you can trust to remove malware and potential risks if you're ever unsure about your computer. I have someone like that now, so I will have no reason to call anyone that promotes their work to me.

Do a system restore. This happened to me and my son restored it back to a time before it came on. I am going to stop using Edge, stuff keeps happening on it.

It can happen on any browser, Jo Ann, not just the Edge program. Hackers will try anything they can to get our money and our info.

@celticeagle When I was duped, it had nothing to do with any popups on my browser that I can remember.

That's a great summation of the problems when you think you are doing something beneficial. I had a similar call some years ago and they did put that program on mine where they could access my computer. I paid them some money, but they kept lowering the price when I told them I didn't have what they wanted. I should have kept them lowering the price, or seen that if it was a reputable business they wouldn't offer discounts so readily. During the fix, I disconnected their work, but it took a bit of time and ingenuity on my part, which I'll tell about elsewhere.

@celticeagle I'm sure that there are many companies out there selling the same type of wares. Some may be legit, but rather than wondering since we wouldn't know ahead of time, it's best to find someone in our areas that we can trust. If I didn't have my computer person, we'd taken the pc to the mall to a shop there before that worked on pcs with issues.

Sounds like a scam. I've run into this kind of stuff before as well. I have an IT friend help me dispose of their stuff. The time I got it they wanted me to pay big to save my computer. I wasn't very cooperative. I was told later that they install spyware on your computer when they fix it.

I have seen similar malware over time but not experienced this particular one. You should always ensure your anti-virus is up to date (and don't use the Microsoft default), which is often the first line of defence.

I would run AVG free and malware bytes, and possibly wipe your pc back to factory. I would also not leave it hooked up to the net when you arent using it

It is a total scam. See Also what you need to do is clear history, cache and ALL TIME HISTORY. Dependent on what your server is you should also open up ML on a private browser server page. Then open another tab in the normal server and see what happens.

I just cleared history for the past 4 weeks on my browser. Don't know how to do this other stuff you talk about. What is ML? Know nothing about servers. Thank you anyway.
