Google Browser Was Hijacked By Fake Microsoft Program

I was typing a comment in mylot earlier today and then a big red screen came up. My google part of the computer was essentially hijacked. Yes, it was the fake Microsoft warning on my google browser and it wouldn’t come off. It is a very stubborn virus. Because it’s on the browser and not in the computer system itself, my three levels of security didn’t stop it. It infected the browser history online. Nothing that my security software protects was compromised thank goodness. Once my husband deleted the browser history and the google browser itself, it was gone. He had to download it again. It didn’t affect my internet explorer at all so that was a good thing. But I’m not happy that it got into the google browser at all. Google was supposed to stop it.

Someone else I follow had this problem too. Thanks to you, I now know what to do if I experience this.

@Corbin5 My husband took care of this for me. I looked on his laptop and went to the official Microsoft page and someone had posted in plain english what to do. So he is printing that out for me. Just in case he's not home and it happens. I tend to panic when this stuff happens.

I do not know this one. Is it a virus specific to Chrome ? If it is the case it cannot have more permissions than Chrome, but it can easily bypass any security software. Annoying. It is a good thing that your husband got rid easily of this animal.

@topffer My husband said he is going to install something called Adblocker.

It is probably a very recently developed piece of malware, in which case the protection software has not yet been updated to defend against it.

@Susan2015 The problem exists for all antivirus and anti malware programs. They cannot start defending against something until it is created.

It happens a lot on this site. Maybe because I spend the most time here. I don't know.

I hope that doesn't happen to me - I've no-one in the house who knows about computers and I wouldn't have a clue myself. Glad your husband got rid of it.

@Susan2015 How do you know you are talking to the real Microsoft? I talked to some guy in India who wanted access to my computer. He can dream on. How do you find the real MS people?

I got this too. I am always so curious I did call the number. The 'tech ' got loud when I told him I had no money. I hope I will refrain from calling if this comes up again. My computer is so important to me I do all the 'what if' stuff in my head.

Wow I thought I was the only one that happened too today. My screen was white, but I couldn't get rid of it at all until I just shut the PC down. It's been ok since.

@gr8bnana6 It was probably just in your browser, but you should run a scan or two just in case.

Wow that is not good! Do you think the virus came from mylot? Everyone here is a tip get Firefox, and enable no redirect, also get no script. And disable all scripts. That will pretty much protect you from any virus online. Stay safe! Blessings
