The hard part's over!

The big day has happened. We moved most of our stuff. This has been an interesting exercise in logistics - planning service transfers, hiring workers, figuring out transportation, deciding what stays and what goes. Today three major things were accomplished. The internet was turned on, the gas was turned on, and all the heavy stuff (tables, chairs, books, etc) were brought over. The Big Move didn't totally go as expected - I wasn't able to rent the U-Haul I'd wanted because when you have a debit card there is a $400 cash deposit and I didn't quite have that much on hand. It was all right though. I got ahold of the guys who were helping me move and it turns out they had a truck and trailer. They got everything out of that apartment and over to the new place in less than an hour, got everything moved in to my new place in about fifteen minutes. I paid them two hours each. For the speed and ease they brought to things, plus the use of a truck, it was a steal. One of the movers had a sister who came along for the fun, I tipped her $5 even though she hadn't expected pay, and said I might hire her for helping me clean later. It was interesting, directing people, guiding them, then leading them where they needed to go - actually kind of fun. I'm really glad it's largely over though and we're enjoying the new apartment.

No kidding. Many things I would have really struggled with were carried down in bare minutes by strong young backs.

Glad that you were able to move everything, and pretty quickly fast too, which is nice. Hopefully the unpacking goes just as well.
