Leave of Absence in Fatherhood?!?

I witnessed my friend and her husband having a discussion and I would like to share it with you. Husband: Wife, I think I need 3 months vacation. Wife: What? Can you repeat that again? Husband: I want to have 3 months vacation from work and all. I just need a room to breathe. You take care of everything. I will take care of the kids. To give you more input, the husband is the breadwinner of the family while the wife has been a stay at home mom ever since they found out that their youngest has a special need. After a few minutes of silence, the wife says. Wife: Okay, if that's what you want. I will apply for work tomorrow but I think I need to have 2 jobs, one at day time and one at night or home based maybe. Because for sure, I will not find a job with an equal salary as yours. Just be sure you take care of the kids' needs, their homework and projects, the food to eat at home and at school. There will be times that you have to buy the food from the market since I will be working. For the laundry, I will help you at night when I got home. At weekends, I will be having my part time too. Husband: No, I am taking it back. I will just work. The exchange of words has been an amusing one for me. I know how hard it is to work for the family but as a mother myself, I know how big the responsibilities are. It does not stop in one end but it is a continuous cycle.

@rakski thats good because kids being raised in daycare while mother is housewife is not really helping kids have better value and respect towards family.

@Lucky15 very true. sometimes, others need to experience it to be able to understand it. and for those father, maybe they should try being a stay at home dad for experience purposes.

No job is harder than being a plain housewife and mother. It is a 24 hours duty, no day off, no breaktime and no pay.

It is the most difficult because it is a never ending work . Whereas when you work , you only concentrate on what you are doing and go home and rest when you arrive home .

@SIMPLYD I agree with you that is a never ending work. No amount of time can be measured when you are a full time mom.

I know that being a full time mother is a hard job, those who are mothers and also have to work are surely not lucky women.

@rakski To have a helper in the country where I live, you need to be very rich.

But I am lucky @LadyDuck to be a full time mom also. But there are times, I missed working and I wished there is a helper too or we are so very rich to get a lot of helper.

Being a wife and mother is a full time job in itself - men often don't realise it

I couldn't agree more @jaboUK Men do not realize that being a full time mom takes a lot time, patience and hard work.

There is one thing missing - - "and I will be doing and dictate all the activities in bed, too!" . . the wife should have said.

I don't think I can do the "full-time mom" job... Sometimes (or most of the time) I don't have the patience for kids...

@josie not only underpaid but there is no policy that sets only 8 hours of work. It is a 24-7 work!
