The Associated Press reported the news on Thursday from Atlanta Georgia the San Francisco Giants have placed outfielder Hunter Pence on the 15 day disabled list with a strain on his right hamstring. Pence injured his right hamstring on Wednesday evening during a baseball game versus the Atlanta Braves running toward first base during the fourth inning of the Braves 5-4 win over the Giants in 11 innings at Turner Field. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said about the injury to his outfielder "did a pretty good on it. That's a shame." which means Pence will not be ready to come off the 15 day disabled list when he is eligible since the severity of his injury could be worse than being a mild injury to his hamstring. The Giants called up from their AAA minor league team the Sacramento River Cats outfielder Mac Williamson who will replace Pence on the Giants 25 man active roster. Outfielder Jarrett Parker will replace Hunter as the Giants right fielder for now.

The injury prone Pence's absence will hurt the Giants in the long run but they have opened up a comfortable division lead.

Hunter is one of the most valuable players on the Giants roster.
