Seattle Mariners designate for assignment relief pitcher Joel Peralta

The Tacoma News Tribune reports the news from San Diego California the Seattle Mariners have designated for assignment right handed relief pitcher 40 year old Joel Peralta on Thursday. Peralta had signed a minor league contract to pitch for the Mariners on February 9, 2016 after the Los Angeles Dodgers decided not to pick up his option of $2.5 million dollars on November 6. 2015. Peralta was called up from the Tacoma Rainiers which is the Mariners AAA minor league team on March 27, 2016. Peralta pitched in 26 games in relief with the Mariners during the 2016 baseball season with a record of one win and no losses but with an earned run average of 5.40. Peralta gave up three runs in 1.1 inning pitched in relief on Wednesday evening in his last relief appearance against the San Diego Padres 14-6 win over the Mariners which sealed his fate. Peralta will be replaced on the Mariners 25 man roster by former Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Cody Martin on Thursday. Martin had been pitching as a relief pitcher for the Tacoma Rainiers which is the Mariners AAA minor league team during the 2016 baseball season when he received the news of his promotion to the Major Leagues.
