Adult Coloring Books

United States

Adult coloring books are the latest hobby around here, it seems. My daughter bought one for me and I’ve been dabbling with it. I’ll have to take some pictures of my efforts. The idea is that, coloring pictures is soothing to the soul. It’s supposed to be calming and take your mind away from the problems you might be thinking about. I don’t know about that. But, I’m enjoying what little I’ve done so far. The book came with a few colored pencils, but I’m going to buy some more colors. I don’t have enough different colors for what I want to color. Have you tried coloring? Is it popular where you live?

I have heard of these, with the age of my kids, I end up coloring with them in their coloring books. But I could see doing this a little later in life and it would be fun.

@IreneVincent It does kind of make me wonder what took them so long to come up with the idea. How many moms have colored with their kids over the years and got relaxed by it.

@mom210 That's true. It did take a long time.

It seems to be a real trendy thing to do. I see that a lot of people are really into it.

I have enjoyed it so far. I need to take a couple pictures of what I've done so far and post them on myLot. I am going shopping for some more pencils though. I don't have enough colors.

A couple of years ago I asked for a Doodle Art for Christmas. That's those posters you colour with markers. I had one when I was growing up and loved it. It was pinned up where everyone could go and contribute to the flock of butterflies. Well, when I got one for Christmas a few years ago I quickly learned that my aging has made it harder for me to do... shaking hands and bad eyes. Colouring doesn't interest me anymore because of the difficulty factor for me. Frustration is not soothing.

I can understand your frustration, if you have "shaking hands and bad eyes." It wouldn't be very soothing.

@IreneVincent I found an adult coloring book at the Dollar Tree. It was thinner than my first, but still, it was just a dollar. I forgot I bought one there.

@AmbiePam I saw some regular coloring books at the Dollar Tree today but they weren't the adult kind. I did find some colored pencils and some colored markers today at Target and worked on a couple pictures, but didn' t finish anything else.

I need more colors too. I'm going to see if I can find some this afternoon actually. I can probably find some at Target or maybe even the Dollar Tree.

I know of someone in my company who is a real addict. She gets a whole shelf of it, and she can buy the coloring books from all over the world to add to her collection. I have no patience to do the coloring.

I lot of people are really addicted to coloring. I always enjoyed it as kid and when my kids were little but never thought of it as an adult. That is, not until it became trendy. Who would have thought that coloring would appeal so much to adults?

@IreneVincent I think the first person to think about it, and to sell the idea is already a rich person. It seems so simple, and yet the idea is so appealing, and profitable.

@RubyHawk I have always wanted to take an Art Class. I am pretty good at pencil and charcoal drawings but I don't know much about water colors or acrylics or oil painting. I think I need a class in those.

Yes, I'm going to look for some colored pencils today, as a matter of fact. My grandson wants me to take him to Target, so I will look there. I'll take some pictures later and post them.

It reminds me of the painting I did on porclain. I was holidaying in the US and my nephew and his wife took me to a place where kids do painting. I too was given something to paint on. I forgot I was an adult and enjoyed doing that. Here is the image of what I painted. I know it is something that needs to be hidden but it brings back happy memories.

@allknowing Oh yes. I'm quite familiar with Fort Collins. I worked as a long distance telephone operator when I lived in Denver, quite a few years ago. I'm glad you were able to visit Colorado. It's a beautiful mountainous state with lots to see. Oh dear. It's raining again. We had a bad storm last night that went on for a couple hours, from about midnight until 2AM. Kept me awake. It's not storming but it sure is raining.

Anything that brings you JOY should not be hidden. Happy memories are best remembered with a souvenir of that moment in time. Thanks for sharing a picture of your momento. Does it say Denver? I lived in Denver for two and a half years. In fact, my daughter was born there.

It's very popular here and I keep trying it. I just don't have the patience though and I'm too much of a perfectionist. If I make one mistake - I toss out the picture. Or I get bored before I get even halfway done with coloring and give up.

Yes, I have always liked to color, when I was young and when my kids were young. I'm giving it a try now, but I'm not addicted to it, like some people are.
