Rain.....miserable or romantic?

Some people love the rain. They sit by their window, holding Chicken Soup for the Soul and drinking hot coffee, peering at the glistening street below, the daily commuters walking drenched from head to toe, the cars moving along slowly to avoid slipping. A spark in their mind, and they go outside to feel the soft taps of raindrops on their cheeks, making the gloominess go away and revelling in the downpour of Nature. They spend a special afternoon with their loved ones....after all, it is a romantic weather! Munching on hot snacks, perhaps they cuddle in and have a movie time on the couch.....a perfect way to top off the rain day! Some find the rain inconvenient. It 'rains over' their parade (i.e. special programmes). They have to endure the annoying heavy traffic, wet dress while going into work, boots muddy from the puddles in the road. Sometimes waterlogging is the worst curse they have to face, which make them more irritable. Surely the Sun wouldn't be too much to ask for the day to go smoothly, ain't it? How do you feel about the rain? (INSET: a picture from the window, on a rainy day, the rain not being quite visible but the dark skies are though.)

I like rains but not the after effects like roads blocked due to rain water, muddiness etc. Also I like rains that are heavy and stop after an hour or so. I dont like depressions when it rains continuously for days together

Rain continuing for days end up in heavily waterlogged streets for days too, and that is really annoying. We can't go out to work. But a small amount of rain is lovely.

I love a gentle rain if it does not last all the days and if does not last for many days in a row.

As long as it is beautiful and drizzling for a short time, it is okay I guess A rain going on for long is a little annoying, yeah.

Rain is definitely romantic when there is a drizzle, but heavy rain can be a bummer sometimes. Especially when the streets get flooded.

I hate the rain. I do not like it at all if I have to go out in it. Remember here in the UK it is mostly cold and miserable we have more than our fair share. In fact this week we had terrible rain all day on Monday. In Europe there has been much flooding in Germany and France. They have closed the Louvre and moved all the paintings to the upper floors because the River Seine has broken its banks. These paintings are priceless. I know in India when the monsoon comes it can also be devastating. I visited a step well in Rajasthan which was fascinating.

Yes when the showers are uncontrollable it is truly terrible. I have heard of UK being cold and unpredictably wet for most of the year. I didn't know about France though, it does sound a lot of hassle for people. Germany I did hear. Mainly when I go out I enjoy a drizzle but if my shoes get wet or muddy or if the intensity increases, it gets annoying. So upto a certain extent I like rain but not the heavy ones.

I find rain to be extremely romantic, soothing, and a good excuse to lay back at home. Rain and hot fried food- Ah! The perfect combo. Rain may cause some inconvinience but scorching sun was not helping either. I think Kolkata is relieved a little :)

Kolkata does show a little relief.....just before the humidity cranks up again with intolerable heat. But you are right, rain gives an excuse to kick back and rest at home.

Whenever it rains, I love to sleep all day long. For some people, they feel sad because the old feelings come back into their senses such as break up with their ex-partner.

yeah the weather makes us drowsy sometimes, so sleeping sounds tempting People who used to romance during rain would be nostalgic and sad about it, you are quite right.

It entirely depends on the circumstances, but I wouldn't say it was romantic. Not miserable either - I love to see it raining on my garden, making my flowers grow.

So you love rain as the nourisher without which nothing would have grown on our earth.....I understand. And really the rain would turn out to be either good or bad depending upon the circumstances like you said.

For a while we lived where water was scarce so I rarely complain about the rain. I like to see it raining.

Where did you live? I also like the rain, only when it's not excessive or causing power failures.

@JudyEv I see. If water is less then that's a problem too. Probably more difficult to handle.

@ria1606roy We lived in inland Western Australia and water is often a bit scarce there.

I think in Kolkata many people hate the rains. It is due to waterlogging in some areas. But again without rain there cannot be good crops.

Yes true. Too much rain is unnecessary since our city cannot handle flooding well. But after this recent onslaught of drought throughout the country a little rain would be nice for a change. Do you like the rain? @sathviksouvik

@ria1606roy I like the first monsoon. Thereafter I get bored. I loved the rain in Udayasamudra resort in Kovalam. I was in holiday and monsoon struck India for the first time in Kovalam.

I find the rain inconvenient usually because there is just too much of it. I do sometimes enjoy it when I just read and stare out the window, coffee in hand

Yes the latter is enjoyable but I fear too much rain does not bode well, especially now seeing what is happening due to heavy rains worldwide.

I like rainy days. It is also very romantic if you have a lover. And you both spend more time in bed together making love, cuddling etc. I cannot wait for the rainy season in my country as we need rain now. Our farms has been dried up. Vegetables are expensive. I am still single now and I hope to get partnered before the rainy season starts haha
