I will resume to work June 14

Lonely feeling, no work at all

After next week, classes begin for the first semester. I am not inspired again to go back to work. Why? There are 20 teachers no longer have subject load given to them .And why? There are no freshmen; every June school opening, our university usually has seven to eight thousand ( 7,000-8,000) freshmen. This school opening, zero. And why? Our previous government approved for the extension of the elementary and high school programs , the so called K9 and K12 programs. Here comes now the visible problem; many teachers jobless for two years starting from 2016 to 2018. Those who do not have loads, do not have have graduate and post-graduate courses. I felt sorry for them. My tears start to fall for the missing of my friends and co-teachers. I feel our faculty office empty. Image by Facebook

Really? I thought those who have no loads wil be assigned as teachers for senior high school or for grades 11 and 12. I thought they will never be jobless. I even seen in the news that they are hiring teachers to teach senior high due to lack of teachers.

@Macarrosel, Our university is a government owned university and will only cater 8 sections senior high school and that will good only for 4 teaches with different disciplines. These 20 might apply to private colleges that cater many senior high schools for free.

That is terrible does it mean more of a workload for the teachers who are keeping their jobs? How can you go from seven to eight thousand students in freshman year to none, that doesn't seem possible. wWhat will the jobless teachers do now?

@cacay1 It sounds like not only the teachers but some students will be hampered by this new policy.

@Marcyaz, The population of or university every semester with freshmen was almost 15,000. This time only major courses are offered and only BSIT is opened for late freshmen, meaning those who did not enroll last year after graduation in high school. Those 20 in our department are now teaching in different countries.Others ventured into business, others teach on line.

It's a shame that they won't have anything. Could they find something teaching grades 11 and 12?

That's really the problem for imposing the K12 educational program in our country. They didn't see the great impact to the teachers.

@Shavkat True, our government is only good put putting money onto their pocket not theirs from people's money, and nothing had done to think about this K9 and K12 program if worth to implement. They are giving too much stress and problems to parents who li,e their children to finish soon, so they can also help them.

@LadyDuck True, but the teachers who were hired there will be paid by United States of America. They are the one hiring teachers for the children there to acquire education.

@LadyDuck, This was a very long and crucial issue for 2 years and now it happens. Sad to know, some of my co-teachers flew abroad and teach there now in China, Vietnam , Thailand and Ethiopia.

My mom is an elementary school teacher, so I feel you. Good thing our youngest is already an incoming sophomore in college this coming semester. She escaped the K+12 program just in time.

So there is a vacuum due to the K-12 program. Some teachers can find other job opportunities.
