A splash of summer colour

Finally got some colour in but had to leave most of the picking and choosing for the flowers to my husband as I'm still trying to recover from the surgery. We do a lot of container planting and I was getting worried all the great flower types would be gone soon. People get crazy for certain types and then they're sold out soon. I gave him a general list but he did a great job and got dahlia's almost this colour. This image is from Pixabay free images but very close to the ones he bought. He also got petunias, zinnias, a few geraniums and big head begonias for the shade. Wow- it's looking good. At least I'll be able to look out at something cheerful while I'm trying to get stronger!

I love dahlias, I dug up my bulbs and replanted the for years until finally one year they just fell apart after being stored for the winter. They are so gorgeous, my peonies are in bloom right now.

Never thought of Dahlias as a bulb plant as I have them in containers- so, if you left them in there- would they grow again or like you said you need to dig them up and store them?

@MarymargII They can't survive the winter here so they need to come in.I pack them in Vermiculite.

@BelleStarr Ah- I may just do that then- is vermiculite that earthy stuff with white balls in it? ha! And I didn't know about packing them in that- great!

I do love the flowers- still working on some sciatic pain but feel it's from the walker and will have to wait and see if it gets better when I'm done with using it. I have some pain meds but don't want to use them too much. I am getting pretty stronger though but still painful on the operated side.

I'm not fond of flowers, but there's this one that was easy to grow when ever I cut the stem of it.

Last weekend I went out with my daughter to get the plants for my containers. Then on Monday I took my granddaughter to choose flowers for my new flower bed.....picture and a post will follow in the next day or so.
