Frank Sidebottom is one of the strangest comedians ever to emerge from Greater Manchester and Cheshire. He was the creation of punk rocker, Chris Sievey, and essentially just a bloke in a fibre glass paper Mache head and a sharp suit, talking like George Formby. Frank was often rude, acidic and juvenile. He had various obscure cable TV shows, and he appeared in many clubs and cabaret shows with his puppet self, Little Frank, in tow. I saw him live a few times. I never found him particularly funny. He was featured in two biographical movies after Sievey died of cancer in 2010. The film Frank was heavily fictionalized though. Frank always claimed to be from Timperley which proudly displays his statue, though Sievey was actually from Ashton-On-Mersey in Sale, about five miles from Timperley. Images of Frank appear on the walls of shops and bars all over Manchester. Arthur Chappell

The name sounds familiar, but I cannot actually remember seeing him and do not recognise the description either.

@arthurchappell That is not unusual for local comedians.

@Asylum he is quite obscure compared to Ken Dodd or Morecambe & Wise and as the YouTube shows, not very talented either

Interesting. I have heard of the legendary George Formby but not this guy. He didn't make it over the pond.

@JohnRoberts if you ever saw him you would be grateful about him not catching on there

I also never heard of him before now. I think it takes a lot of guts to be a comedian because humor is so subjective.

I at first wondered why someone stuck that head on a perfectly nice statue

I haven't heard of this guy. Humour is a pretty personalised thing, isn't it? There are a lot of modern-day comedians that I don't find particularly funny.

So reading this and the comments, he wasn't that funny. Interesting story, though.
