I'm under surveillance!

This week I am trying to regain control of the garden. At first Pup prevented me doing anything in the garden in spring, then we had weather that alternated between very hot (too hot for energetic work outside!) and very wet (ground too wet to stand on), and now a week's holiday - all this has meant that the weeds are growing like - well, like weeds, with perfect growing conditions! So yesterday and today I have been trying to make a bit of an impression. I thought I was alone out there but obviously my every move was being watched; someone was keeping an eye on things. I pulled out a whole heap of weeds, then as soon as my back was turned I heard a little fluttering sound. I looked around and there was a robin right behind me. S/he (males and females look the same) had obviously been watching carefully to see if I might unearth anything tasty, and it must have been a veritable smorgasbord out there because the robin kept coming back for more.

Nice photo of that robin. My weeds are also crying out for attention today.

Once the garden is finally completed the robin will end up tapping on your window to remind you to feed him or her.

@Fleura Turkey itself is fine, but the mosquitoes seem to be rather hungry these days.

Veritable smorgasbord! One of my favourite expressions. By the way, what impression were you trying to make? Brucie, Tarby, Frank Spencer?

I would love to have a little bird or two getting some benefit from my gardening. I think they would be good company.

Great photo. I've just reseeded parts of my lawn so I'm not to happy to see any sort of birds around at the moment. They think the seeds are for them.

Birds are quite intelligent, I've noticed they watch you when you are working in the garden. Did you manage to get rid of the weeds?

They can obviously spot an opportunity a long way off! I have pulled up most of the weeds but I can never get rid of them completely; most of the offending weeds are ground elder which will spread everywhere as long as a tiny bit is left - and since it has a reserve amongst the roots of the shrubs and in the hedge it is impossible to ever get rid of it.
