Time for a myLot break.

I was far away at a professional meeting today. I am just coming back, and I heard a group playing some good music when I was trying to reach my home. Too late, restaurants are installing their tables in the middle of my street at 8 pm, and I parked my car far from my home. The weather is nice, and I have decided to have my dinner outdoors near the group of musicians that I heard earlier. I love this city in summer. I will be back here later or tomorrow. Do you take a myLot break times to times ? Do not expect an immediate comment if you respond. Photo : restaurants installing their tables in my street.

That is a very beautiful place my friend, wish it was just around the corner so I could drop by, I would treat you to a drink or two, some nice food and a pleasant chat, we can take the break together

@louievill You would not believe it, but this street was the decumanus of the Roman city = the main East-West street 2000 years ago. There are cobblestones but they are not old and are very small. They installed them with the high pavements, high enough to forbid to a car to climb to park. The true local ones are large cobblestones, they are still visible in a few streets, and these streets have usually no pavements.

@topffer middle of the road adds more fun and excitement, i love narrow streets and alleys, we had always lived in the main road even now in our private subdivision. Your place looks historic, looks like there is some history in it, are the streets cobblestones?

@topffer my instinct for antiquities made me feel that the moment I saw the picturewell I was not named after several French kings for nothing

Eating out doors seems rather nice,we don't have much of it here . And I have never heard of an impromptu dining area in a street by the restaurants. We have to take breaks from myLot but am getting pretty addicted to it.:)

The street becomes pedestrian in the evening. There was a project in this part of the city to close it completely the case, and it has been done for a few streets occupied by the tables and the chairs of restaurants, and it is nice to dine outdoors... when it does not rain. I am also addicted to myLot : welcome to the club.

@responsiveme You see, it is weird : they are common in Europe, and I did not realized before this discussion that they were not existing in Asia. Maybe is it because the weather is too hot in your country ?

I do take a break when I don't feel good. Mylot is like my left arm. I'd miss coming here daily. I always get pretty immediate responses. I do well I think.

I was feeling good yesterday, but I thought that the weather was to good to spend the evening at myLot. We have had rain since months in France, and yesterday was sunny, so I took the opportunity. It was a good move : it rains again today.

That looks like it would be a pleasant place to eat, but I understand your frustration at not being able to drive to your home. We all have to take a break from myLot sometimes - we do live in the real world after all. Obviously we can't reply to all responses immediately.

The old historical center of my city is a good place to come out during the evening, but it is the worst place possible for a car owner. I have no garage with this house, it is impossible to park near it, impossible to reach it after 7 1/2 pm because the street becomes pedestrian... I have decided to sell my car. I will rent one for a day if needed. I do not start discussions often, and I usually stay a few hours near my computer when I start one. Indeed I am not near the computer 24/24.

@jaboUK We have good public transport, and I really need a car maybe once or twice a month, so, yes, it will cost me less than to keep a car that I cannot park near my home.

@topffer That's a good idea to hire if you don't use your car too often. No tax or insurance either, and no fuel or repair bills.

We had dinner in Rome at a setting like this. It was a lovely evening and we had a delicious meal. Because I'm the other side of the world I usually put up a post then don't look at it for ages. I don't expect immediate replies to any of my comments/responses.

It has something to do with Italy : the street in the photo is supposed to have been the decumanus (the main East-West street) during the Roman era. I have no restaurant in the part of the street where I live, but I cannot access to my house with a car during the evening when the street becomes a pedestrian street.

@JudyEv The previous mayor planned to ban completely cars in the old part of the city. The mayor changed and the project stopped, but I am sure that it will come back soon or later. I have planned to sell my car anyways : with no garage, it is too difficult to park it in this part of the city.

@topffer We saw this from time to time in various cities, including Singapore. At a certain time, traffic would be banned and tables might be put out or else people could walk freely.

I wish I lived in France. That would be so amazing to sit out and have dinner while listening to music. :-)

You would need an adaptation period : we have a good quality of life, but we are always grumbling.

This also happened here, I go out in morning without any problem but when I'm going home someone blocked my park way because of the tables and chair

I have no garage and I have decided to sell my car : I cannot park it in my street, and I can hardly park it at business hours at less than 1 mile, no joking. I have good public transport around, and I will rent a car if I need one.

The evening has been good. It did not happen often, but I lunched and dined in restaurants yesterday : I was in another city for lunch, and a bit too tired to prepare my dinner when I came back. Fortunately I have not a long way to go to find a restaurant : half of the shops in the old center of my city are restaurants.

I am back since a long time, and I am pleased to have been able to enjoy the evening : it is raining again today. You are teaching Maths and Physics? I would have not guessed that. I was thinking that you were in an Arts and Literature college.
